Sorry to hear about that Docta, I wonder how far into the future we're going to have to wait for cures to these diseases.

Why people are diagnosed with diseases that happen for no reason and have no cure. My grandfather has Alzheimer's.

He retired a few years ago and then was supposed to go travelling around the United States with my grandma. He always wanted to see places like Nashville. Then he was diagnosed with Alzheimers. So he's slowly losing his mind day by day. The worst thing is that he knows it's happening and he can't do a damn thing.

He always enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and fishing. Well now that he has Alzheimers, he's had his license taken away so he can't even go visit his friends anymore. He's had his gun license taken away too so he can't hunt. He can't fish. He can't do anything.

I was at his house a couple months ago and when we showed up he was so happy to offer us a beer and have a drink with us. He wanted us to stay up even longer and it was 2am or so. He's a good man.
Life fucks us all.

That fucking sucks. I'm really sorry to hear that. One thing you could do (Very small thing though.... :( is get folding at home on your computer http://www.atrip.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4262

I have it and it helps researchers find a cure for alzheimers by using the spare cpu cycles on your computer to fold proteins and stuff.

Does your grandad like country music and stuff? I live about 4 and a half hours from nashville, and thats about the only thing that there is to see. It's a pretty nice city though.

Welcome to my world and the world of Cystic Fibrosis. Anyway my uncle's mother, I guess Grandmother in law, has Alzheimers. Its a horrible disease and to see your loved one's lose graspo of who you are is just the worse. I know we will find a cure for these diseases, CF and Alzheimers and many other diseases in the next few decades. Hopefully I'll be around to see it, though my docs said I'll live to late 40s, early 50s.

I'm kinda tempted to go into a field of science where I can do research on these diseases and help find a cure. Especially as pretty much everyone knows (or has known) someone with a fatal disease, and it would help so much just to find a cure for one of them...

It's only after you've lost everything
that you're free to do anything.

This is why life sucks. He worked all his life to enjoy the last years, retirement is awesome, but he gets a disease so he can't do anything other than sit around.

Actually...I havent been jewd in a really long time...
So I can say Life is pretty good...

On the topic of diseases and gradparents...
I still have ALL of my family members, the only people in my family that have died are Great Grandparents...

SO this means...

In a span of 2 or 3 years, they will all die...which will be fucking wonderful, god dammit. I live across the country from them too, and I never get time to see them...

My friends Grandparents just died within a year from each other, and they had Alzeihmers too...messed up...

Sorry to hear that man, enjoy the time you have with him...

I'm sorry to hear about that. Unfortunately shit like that happens to everyone in life, I've lost more than enough good family members to cancer. I have only been alive 17 years, but damn, life sure does screw you quick.
