Basically, Bearshare is a program like Kazaa where you can download music and shit. But my question is, how is this legal?

That's like installing AIDS on your computer. For your sake, please use bit torrent or something, just don't use anything like Kazaa, limewire or bareshare. I beg you, spare yourself and your computer.

Well, can't say I didn't try. I went to the bear share website and couldn't see a single thing about downloading copywrited music being legal, where did you hear this?

A friend of mine was like, "Oh, well, you pay for Bearshare, so it's all legal.". I was a little skeptical, so I thought I'd ask.

Bittorrent is great stuff, I use it a lot nowadays. The only down part is that it can be very slow.

That's a misconception that has gotten several people sued. They think that since they pay for the filesharing software, that they can share anything they want regardless of copyright laws. That's not how it works and the RIAA really could care less if you paid for your filesharing program or not, so keep that in mind.

Is it still illegal if you d.l stuff, but dont share it? Or...will the RIAA go after sharers more or d.lers?

Downloading anything but music off of kazaa or any program like it is just asking for a virus. Bit torrent is good if you have good upload speed, don't know what to tell you if you're on a lower speed connection. The only thing I used to download was music but I stopped because I got fed up with the crappy quality. Now I just buy CDs.

It is still illegal to download stuff but so far noone has been sued for downloading. Right now 100% of the lawsuites are against uploaders.
