View Full Version : Bush is in my town today.

Bush is coming to my town, Kutztown... where I live, that is.
So it was 8:00 in the morning, we started walking up to the streets Walnut Street) with our signs. And here came us, a bunch of Green party guys with signs such as "Bush is a lier" "Stop attacking women" and such, while Democrats came with signs say "John Kerry" "Edward too" and such.
Cops won't let us cross the street. Everyone was being escorted to a "public area" to raise the signs... so Bush won't see the protesters.
Then a woman came with a sign says "re-elect Bush". The cops let her walk right into the hall (Keystone Hall) where Bush is going to give a speech.
Not only that... all the residents along the Main Street (both East and West) are not allowed to leave their house, and there are yellow stripes taped right infront of their house.
I can't believe this monkey comes to my town and trash my day... well not really, I stay in a building with AC and watching from the window and receive updates from people coming in and out... but still, this money caused quite a stir.

Politics used to be interesting. Lots of subtly and intrigue. Now everyone wishes their opposition was dead. Great world we live in today.
Edit - Wow, you guys are t3h sm4r7, you really think that Bush would let protestors into the hall where he is speaking? Do you think any president in their right mind would? Clinton did the same thing with Republican protestors, big friggin deal.

I don't know, Yian; maybe a better move would have been to lose your sign, disassociate yourself from the people you were among, and go into Keystone Hall and listen to what the man had to say.
It's completely cool for you and others to be at odds with this president, and I wouldn't imagine the act of attending one of his speeches would "flip" you to the "other side", but at least you would have gained some insight as to the what and why of your convictions. And, since you made the effort of being there anyway, at least you would have had that particular experience for your trouble.
I made myself attend two appearances of President Clinton just to "look him in the eye" so-to-speak, even though I was often at odds with his policies and thought he was a reprehensible human being personally. He was, nevertheless, still our President, and I would like to think I never lost sight of that. (Even though, IMO, he did.) I've seen every one of our Presidents, except Jimmy Carter, in person. (Our paths never seem to cross.) Even saw President Ford, although I was way too young to remember it now.
And, I believe DanTheMan is quite correct. The security and crowd control would have been the same no matter who the president happened to be. Most especially in the current climate we find the World in today.

I was there listening to the speech. I also took some photos. But the battery ran dry when he actually started talking. Damn. None of my buddies got in because they refused to get rid of my sign. I carried my sign with me and walked right in with my ticket... you will see why my sign wasn't a problem soon when I got my camera back and upload the photos. Hehehe...
Most time the speech was quite boring. He made some good point but the crowd won't stop clapping. Very annoying. He can hardly finish anything he wants to say because the crowd won't stop "showing support."
One thing he said was about how this whole war on terrorism has messed up the life of the Americans. He recommened us "be realistic, go back to our job and let him handle the war." Most people think it makes sense. No matter how disgruntled we are, we neither have the power nor have the ability to handle the politics, so why not just live our live and let the politicians do their job?
Well, emmm..... if the politicians are trustworthy of course we can just let go all our doubts and be lowly peasants. Then why the fuck do we need to vote? We can just trust these good men and women in the congress to come up with a great leader without us "losing our focus", right? After all, politics isn't our thing. Oh, in fact, we never needed to vote, anyway. Did Bush win popular vote? Seems to me that electoral vote is the only thing that counts. Then why bother? Just "go back to our job" and let politicians do the voting.
Then Bush went on, talking about the enviromental issue. He once again ask us to be realistic, for we need energy first then anything else later. He explain why it is important that his friends' companies stay alive "because they offer you people jobs" and to make them stay alive they need a solid amount of energy supply. He also say why worry about the enviroment when obviously all the companies "are doing things in a enviroment friendly way."
That's about it.

Right... sure you wouldn't. Now cut out the excessive swearing, or I'll soap your mouth.
Was Truckin joking about Bush not censoring his public appearances? Because, from what I know and have heards, only certain questions are allowed to be asked to the 'president'. As in censoring.

Yes, normally the questions asked to the President during press conferences are screened. I guess it gives the President time to think up counters to the questions.

It might as well go:
Press: "Mr. President! Question number 16!".
*Bush squints at the screen at the back*
Bush: "Response 16. Thank you, that'll be all for today!"
Yup.
