Hi guys!

UT2004 has gone nuts on me...i get very slow feedback (15 to 20secs) between my mouse movement and actual movement of the char on screen...obviously, this leads to excruciating gameplay...the game was working fine till two days ago...:(

i'm running a 2800+ on an A7N8X with 1 gig RAM and a 9700pro

also, i know i shud prolly not be asking this here but...i got new 5.1 spkrs...now my mobo is supposed to have 6 channel audio but has only three input jacks...when i plug in the two channels of my spkrs into the mobo's, i get sound from only one channel (2 spkrs)...the color coding for the mobo jacks and the spkrs input cables match only from green to green...the other cable is black but the mobo has a blue input slot...how do i get all my 6 channels to work?!?!

i hope sushi128 is still a member here...

Ooooh! It’s an official comebacks day today! Hey man!

Ok I'm going to be very plane and predictable here, sorry. But have you checked and made sure you have all the drivers/BIOS/patches up to date?

Ack! 4:00AM! A little game/hardware troubleshooting before retiring.

OK, I wouldn't expect a system with 1Gb of RAM to do this, but you can consider the following:

Quite a few people have reported that disabling the text-to-speech option helped or cured the lag situation. It worked for me on one of my two machines with this title installed. Also, have you left enough free disk space on the partition where you have your Windows virtual memory swap file? Again, with 1Gb of RAM, (unless you have a lot of junk running in the background, and that's a NO-GO), I wouldn't think this would be an issue, but I suppose if your swap file space has gotten a little too sparse for either Windows and/or UT, you could see some nasty stuttering come out of the blue. (No pun intended.) I felt that going with a 2Gb fixed swap file on a 512Mb RAM rig did wonders for me.

In addition to the SoundStorm option, I'm pretty sure your Asus board has a RealTek audio CODEC, too. A lot of motherboards with onboard audio have only three jacks, but they *usually* can be re-configured. RealTek and C-Media CODECs generally fall into this category.

The PINK jack is normally your microphone, but that becomes the center channel/subwoofer output. The BLUE jack is normally a stereo line-in. When re-configured, it changes to the left and right rear speaker output. There should be some sort of audio setup/control panel utility included that allows you to change these settings. I think on the C-Media CODECs, for example, you set these when you install the driver. RealTek, I think, permits you to alter them after installation. It's been a little while since I messed with a RealTek.

i love u guys!

hey Rad!
long time...

hey rhenna!
....thnx for ur help but could this swap file shit just start one fine day?
i mean the game was working fine with all params set to max and with 4x fsaa...and then it just started giving the problems i described...i dont think the binder option is enabled but ill check nonetheless...(im playing it single player for the time being)

here's a little something i forgot to mention...

i hv a drawing tablet...the first time ut gave problems i disconnected it and it worked fine for a couple of hrs...could there be some sort of a conflict?

any idea if there is a utility that allows me to reconfigure the mobo sound settings like u said?
...its a realtek codec if that helps

Right here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nf_audio_01.html

Tread lightly if you feel the need to update your nVidia chipset drivers. You may have this already installed and not realize it.

============================

If your drawing tablet has a software package that constantly "polls" the tablet to see if it's in use, then that could certainly impact the system's performance across the board. But, you might only notice it in something as hardware-intensive as UT2004. Also, if you installed or moved a bunch of stuff onto your C:\ partition around the time that UT started misbehaving, that could have caused a sudden onset of stuttering due to insufficient swap file space.

How big is your virtual memory setting, and how much space is free on your C:\ partition? (Assuming that is where your swap file is located.)
