Yeah looks like a bad ass movie, it's been out in asian for awhile now (Kinda like how Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon). It became popular there and well hey! Americans love movies, send it over there! Glad they did cuz now it'll be dubed in english (Maybe).

What's the matter with you eyes? Can't you read? Few things f*cks up a movie experience more than dubbing.

Hero is not just a great movie, it is also an extremely beautiful movie visually. (The fight on the lake is god damn art baby  )

No I can't read, I also can't type, spell, or walk.

I'm cool with subtitles and all but I'd rather spend my time watching the whole screen rather than just reading text at the bottom half.

Hero is a very impressive movie, Ive seen it last year here. The costumes and backdrops are very colorful, that why some people call it an artsy movie. The way the story unfolds is also interesting. However, like most kungfu movies, its too overblown. That "Oh look Im fending off a billion arrows!" scene ruined it for me... and people can't walk on water, nor do calligraphy with mops.. :D

LOL. Don't get me wrong, the 'water' scenes are beautiful, its like watching a dream/fantasy or something, but I'm the type who likes 'realistic' movies. Realisitc in a way that there is some sort of explanation to why some characters are able to do what they can do in movies. The supermoves of Neo for example are acceptable coz of the "Im in the virtual world" setting but in Hero/Crouching Tiger... OMG Im beating the chinese army with my umbrella! bah!

The question is: Where do you draw the line Rohan?

Is it realistic the way that John Travolta's wide face fits onto Nicolas Cage's narrow face and vice versa in John Woo's "Face off"? Or how about the animated email program the evil geek used in "GoldenEye"? Or why was there a motorcycle on an island for Tom Cruise to use in "Mission Impossible 2"?

I realize that all the flying around and similar, according to the laws of physics, impossible feats in certain asian movies are more extreme than the above mentioned examples but I fail to see the difference between accepting Neo's superman abilities due to the virtual world and accepting the supernatural abilities of Jet Li or Yun-Fat Chow in worlds of mythology/legend where both "Hero" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" takes place.

Oh well, I suppose It all comes down to a matter of personal taste.

I actually prefer subtitles over dubbed. After 10 minutes you don't even think about it and it gives the movie a... better feel.

Yeah, I made the mistake to download a Bond movie ages ago, it was dubbed in Spanish! It was hilarious!!

Dubbed for pure funfactor.
Subs for pleasure.

Some friends of mine just went and saw this movie. They told me to never ever see it. They said it was so horrible they laughed at it. They told me the movie is about Jet Li's character and him wanting to kill the king. Well the same story is told over and over again by different people but with slightly different versions. What the fuck is up with that shit? It sounds so gay, this one might actually be worse than AVP. They also said Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was so much better than this movie. So if you didnt like Crouching Tiger, I wouldnt see this if I were you.

Rotten Tomatoes doesn't seem to think so: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/hero/?rtp=1

Actually it is the Emperor, not the King. If that was your interpretation of their resumé of the movie, then fine but if that was THEY told you then they obviously haven't understood even the basics of the story/movie and in that case I wouldn't put to much faith in their judgement.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw Pulp Fiction, yet for some incomprehensible reason (to me at least) people seem to like that sorry excuse for a movie ... wait, perhaps it has something to do with different tastes in movies (end sarcasm)

And I have friends who think David Lunch's "Blue Velvet" and "Wild at Heart" are great movies but to me they are constantly fighting over which is the worst movie I've ever seen and which is the second worst movie I've ever seen. Unless you're sure you share your friends' taste in movies I suggest you go see the movie and make up your own mind.

Besides, I you want to talk about miserable plots I need only mention a block buster like Independence Day ...

The movie is not gay. Your friends just don't understand wtf is going on. Tell them to lay off the booze next time, hmmm?

Lets start from the beginning. Nameless (Jet Li's character) is a warrior who sought an audience with the emperor after supposedly killing two famous assasins who wanted the emperor dead for personal reasons.

What that same story is told over and over again by different people but with slightly different versions. part, is actually part of the conversation between Nameless and the emperor. With each part, Nameless is allowed to take a few steps towards the emperor. That repetitive part is actually different scenarios on what would/could have happened, that led up to the point where Nameless arrived at the imperial palace to seek an audience with the emperor.

It is finally revealed that Nameless is actually an assassin who collaborated with those assasins he supposedly killed, and was supposed to kill the emperor.

Hero is not a mindless action movie. So don't expect a straightforward "experience" like Star Wars.
