Anime, Manga and Hentai! and my pathetic knowledge of it

Ok for those of you who care heres some information on anime and anime related stuff:

Anime is the japanese word for animation.
Manga is the japanese word for comic.
Hentai is a multi use word, depending on the sentence or statement depends on what it means, it can be refered to as a word that describes someone who is perverted. Hentai can also be used as a word that describes perverted content such as pornography.
If you just happen to watch an anime and a character screams hentai! then they are acusing the fellow character of being perverted.

If you want a quick history of anime and manga, where it started and so forth then rent or buy The Animatrix dvd.

I have a vast knowledge of anything and everything Anime, whatever questions you have just ask me.

I find anime or any type of japanese art to be weird it all looks the same to me..i watch it somtimes but i enjoy superman and all that type of art:P

To answer Downfall's question:

When Neon Genesis' first movie was made, the general reaction was pretty bad. GAINAX simply made the film with too much confusion and the audience got pissed off because too many things wee left unexplained, or poorly defined, such as the point of the whole Instrumentality Project, the Hebrew symbols on the charts, the real role of Rei and many other Reis, the whole "giant human flesh" at the end, and many other things...

So, too solve the problem, they simply made another one. There were two films for Evangelion, the one you see real people's footage is the "second edition", and those people are the guys and gals from the premiere of the first version of the film.

Mr. Sadamoto, when making the Manga, had his own intepretation of the story line, but never made the series as far as the end, though many, many details that leads to that point were changed. In my opinion, the Manga series were better. It came later, thus many flaws in the character building in the anime series were fixed, and the characters were much more defines. Soryu,s battle with the 5th angel were finished in 5 pages, for an example, and in the anime series it took an episode.

So, theoratically, there should be 2 endings. But there aren't too many differences between the major plots, because the "second edition" simply made some minor changes to make the film "more accetable". Both films had Earth with blood, had the moon fucked (except that it was in a much better shape in the original one) and everything else. Just the way Shinji saying his lines when he was at the beach. But originally, Soryu did not survive.

So, to me, there is just one ending. The film that made its way to DVD, that's the one.

Good question... it is obvious that anime is a way Japanese to express their fantasy, and Jappan, like many advanced nations in Asia, were heavily influenced by Western societies' way of life after WWII. Many of them find it's interesting to be of another race. Simply put, what's the fun of being an Asian if you are already one? Why be an Elf, or an Orc, in MMORPGs? Because it's just a more diverse exprience.

Beside, the anime characters aren't all necessarily white. White people don't usuallu have green or blue hair, or small nose. :D

The reason the eyes are large is because of the Japanese belief and apparetly now culture that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Therefore the larger your eyes the more soul you have, i.e the more innocent you are. Good guys, especially females have large eyes whereas bad guys, particularly males have small eyes.
So the smaller your eyes the more evil you are, which is kinda wierd.:confused:

Anime was designed to be cheap idiot, its whats refered to as 'cheating animation'. But they always do it in a way that it still has impact and so forth even though theres about a quarter of the budget in em compared to American stuff.

I'm asuming Rohan was directing his questions at me so in reply:
1. No, actually I'm just a guy who talks about shit on about 10 different boards, both anime and video game realted ones.

2. Disneys all good and fine in its own way I guess but they never make anything but kiddy crap whereas Anime ranges from G to R18+

Of course dragonball was all a dream, no one could write messed up crap like that so many times in slightly different ways.

The reason so many animes feature mushroom clouds and large explosions is because of hiroshima and stuff like that.
Anime was born post apocalytic. After all those japanese places were destroyed they had nothing in terms of entertainment except for drawings and moving drawings. Thats why its so huge in asia case it was all they had at one point.

There are actually quite alot of dark skined people in Anime, you just don't watch enough to really notice.

I think yain pretty much covered all of the reasons for End of evangelion, but i think he forgot one f the major reasons for the creations of End of Evangelion.

Towards the end, just before leliths head comes off you will notice the screen gets covered in word documents wrigten in Japanese, these where some of the many of thousands of death threats the orignal creator of Evangelion got due to the original ending.

so in short terms he decided to basicaly say "fuck you all, im going to kill all the characters youv grown to like" and so he began the "End of Evangelion"

the real ending of the evangelion series is in the last episode. basically its quite representative of how kids are raised in asia. overacheivers that are pushed by their parents to be the best without understand why. shinji could never liveup to growing up, he wasnt happy with his life, his way to react to certain situations and most of all his family. its when he learns to accept himself and how his flaws are what makes him an adult, that he finaly grows up and end the evangelion dream.

So all of DB DBZ and DBGT was nothing but a dream from the main character? Thats pretty fucked up. So what happens when he wakes up? Where is he?

And about the eye thing. Thats not what I was told. I think it was one of my Art teachers in high school said the reason they have such huge eyes is because. When americans drew japanese people they always made them have really small eyes. So to get back at americans for making fun of their eyes they always drew huge eyes on their characters to make fun of americans. Thats just what I was told.

I really don't think that's the case. When I was a penciler in our anime studio, we never heard of such thing. Besides, if you watch enough manga, you will know that a lot of animation doesn't make big eyes foor their characters. Mostly the character lacks the emphasis on nose, which is why their eyes look so huge. But this is not always the case.

I dunno, and don't really care to much. I just started watching Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex and its one kick ass anime. I love all the sci-fi/futuristic shit in it.

For those of you who don't 'get' Anime I must insist that you rent The Animatrix. The best fucking animation you'll ever see and the extra's are designed so that people who have no idea what its all about can LEARN!!!

If you saw Final Fantasy, hated it for obvious reasons (me too) but thought that the animation was insanely brilliant then watch final flight of the osiris. Its done by the same guys and it explains what happened before the 'Enter The Matrix' plotline and the Matrix Reloaded. It is well worth buying for that short animation alone.

Animatrix was pretty good. though they show heavy influence of western animation. I enjoyed it, hoped it could be a bit longers, like more episodes or something. I lend the DVD to my friends and they all liked it, too.

Does anyone here ever watched, or even heard of, Dr. Black Jack? I started reading its manga series when I was 8, and they started making anime series when I was 17. Always loved the manga for its creativity. Not too sure about the TV anime series, though; only watched a few episodes and wasn't too impressed.
