Did you install it the right way? Like, un-install the old one first, then the new one?

Same here, I've been forgeting to uninstall the old ones :p, but I haven't had a problem yet. I think I have Cat 4.7's or something.

I don't forget to uninstall the old ones, I just don't do it. Software updates from the same company should be intelligent enough not to fuck up.

It is advisable to always uninstall old drivers before installing new ones. But that’s only for optimization/performances sake. In this case seeing that those where beta drivers that might have been the problem. My advice, just try it again (with uninstallation this time).

Its not the software updates, sometimes windows just has a hold on certain files thereby not allowing the updater to over write them with a new version. So you uninstall them to allow the new files to get onto your system without having some mix and match shit going on.

I know all that, but it's too much hastle to uninstall them. I only do that and manually clean it up if I'm having a problem. If not, I just slap them on top of another like pancakes...

Well i don't normally uninstall either, 9 times out of 10 the new drivers have worked for me just installed over the top...
in the case of the Catalyst 4.9's however, the drivers seem to work (although I've only tried the Colin McRae '05 Demo) but the Control Center just crashes as soon as you try and open it:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
cli.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I've yet to try removing everything and starting clean, bit of a pain but might be worth it.
EDIT:
Sorry, me being an idiot! I never had .NET framework installed! Just giving that a go....
