Gamers with a good memory will remember the original Mortyr, Developed by Mirage; the game is an action-packed follow-up to the successful original.
Is Mortyr 2 a true follow up to the original game and what made the original such a success?
Succesful, don't make me laugh! Motyr was no where near successful.

Yeah that was the first thing that crossed my mind. "O Mortyr, that dumbass game."

...and what made the original such a success?
That is a great question, 'cause that isn't the way I remember it. Mortyr had some decent, (not great), level-design, (at least in the WW2 portion), some nice artwork, and the engine was capable of some interesting lighting effects. (Although Yian will probably disagree with me on that point.)
But, that was pretty much it. The rest of the game felt like, at best, an early beta. Totally linear, no plot or story of any consequence, marginal AI, the aforementioned engine was prone to some hellacious World-class clipping, and the entire "futuristic" portion felt like you wandered into some sort of self-indulgent "inside joke" that was shared among the developers.
It was a missed opportunity, because Mortyr was one of the early entries into what became the now-popular and pervasive WW2 genre. The concept of a past and future FPS was pretty cool, but they didn't come close to making it work.
