I have a little strategy related dilemma which I thought you guys could help me solve. I cant seem to choose which strategy game to concentrate on next. My attention is utterly divided by these two great titles (Rome:TW and Warhammer 40,000:DoW). Both of which hold a specific interest for me. The first one because first, I have never before played a game of the total war series and second since the whole history orientation of the title appeals greatly to me. And the second game intrigues me because being a big fan of StarCraft, I am highly interested in seeing the inspiration behind that remarkable game (hence Warhammer 40000).
The money however is not a limitation for me, time is. I perfectly know that if I will purchase both titles I simply wont have enough time to complete them both.
By now you also might be wondering why haven’t I made a poll. Well, that’s just because I am very interested to hear your opinions on both titles so I could have a bit more detailed user side view on them. So if you have played one of the games mentioned (or both), please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts and opinions on the issue.

I'm assuming you played both demos so I'll spare what you already know. The Dawn of War demo really gave us a good idea of what to expect from the final product so if you liked the demo then you'll LOVE the full version. Rome: Total War is a different story though since the demo was just a taste of what's promised in the full version. That little skirmish was fun, but I was really left longing for a bigger fight and I'm curious as to how the BIG battles play out. In a way, I took the safe bet with DoW. Plus, I like to play online and the thought of playing Rome MP just doesnt get me excited.
In the end I went with DoW because the demo totally sold me and I looked at the big picture: which game will I still be playing 3 months from now, 6 months, etc.? Rome would be fun for a while but what about a month later? With that said, it really doesnt matter which one you start with because I can almost guarantee you that you'll still have DoW on your HD 6 months from now. I havent even bothered installing anything BUT DoW on my computer....I dont want to play anything else!

Good one, I went through a format last week and DoW was the first thing i've put back on, haven't even had time for GR or others yet.. as far as Rome:TW goes i've played it but i'm not a fan of it.. you know I was going to say DoW. :D
Can't wait till peeps star modding it.

Rome: Total War for the win!
You can not compare the demo to the full game. The demo just pales in comparison with the scope of the full game. You are missing out on the huge battles and you are missing all of the fun with the turn based strategy map. I actually have more fun with the turn-based game than I do with the real-time.
I played the last two total war games and I can tell you that these games were extremely fun. I just love strategy games where I conquer lands and build up armies to go conquer more lands. I am able to see my progress as I spread my empire across the land. I just love the fealing of defeating a faction in battle and taking over their land and riches.
Although I haven't played the full game yet, I have ordered it and it is on its way.
If I were you I would go with R:TW just because you haven't experienced the awesomeness of the Total War games. With DoW it offers some things to the genre, but is basically more of what has already been done.

I've got both, DoW sees way more action. It's the most fun I've had since Starcraft.

Hmm, definitely some food for thought here. Well replay value is undoubtedly something I am looking for in my games. Thank you for your time and contributions to the thread guys.

That puppy isn't sick because of crack, it's cause of the firecrackers I made it swallow.. pop, pop, pop.. intestines all over the sidewalk.
DoW def, i'm playing the SP and it keeps on pulling me in.. mission 5 is gripping.

The single player is actually a bit weak in my perfet opinion. It's too god damn easy . Now multiplayer, that's where it's at.

I gotta try out the story....I've been addicted to skirmishes and the occasional MP game. I say occasional because it's next to impossible to get a net game going with a decent ping and even harder to get a game going where half the people dont drop!

I would recommend DOW. It's such a fucking great game. In my opinion the best RTS since Starcraft. Fuck Total War shit. Be a man and get DOW.

I havent played rome total war yet, but DoW seems like a game that will last longer and have more community support.

That's a big switch from Homeworld 2. Some of the missions in that game were pretty difficult imo. I guess Relic decided to tone the difficulty down a bit.

With the dynamic ai they used most of the game seemed impossible.. that was one of the worse game mistakes yet.

yea, since we're on the topic of AI now. For those of us that actually tried that heap of shit know how AWESOME the AI was. Especially the AI of your NPC's who are there to "help" you.

I have both DoW and Rome: TW and I can't tell which is better cause they're both awesome but you want to talk about intensity, a lot of the real time fights I've had so far in Rome: TW was so huge my head asploded.
