saw this one on the ut2004 atari forums...

post your FPS game timeline.... from the first fps to the last one.... lets see how it started for everyone

mine:

Duke Nukem 3d shareware - my sister's bf showed me it. the strippers stuck to my mind.
Doom on snes - my first true FPS experience
Goldeneye - the game that changed my perception of gaming
Turok - amazing weapons
Quake on n64 - the squarish monsters gave me a wrong impression of PC gaming (since this game originated there)
Doom 64 - underrated game imo
Turok 2 - more amazing weapons and kickass monsters
Hexen 2 - my return to computer gaming, and it made me hate it
Quake 3 Arena - i missed the whole point: online gaming
Half-Life - that game strucked me from the opening sequence... must have been the ambience, or simply the crispness cuz of the high resolution of computer monitors compared to TV screens... :S
Unreal Tournament - didnt care much at first, i was too much into HL, then UT welcomed me to MP gaming
Counter-Strike - my apogee of gaming along with Diablo2... played this one too much... so many hours wasted.
Deux Ex - didnt stand out in my book imo
Max Payne - my first PC graphic revolution, killed my banshee. good SP game though
RTCW - my introduction to ww2 shooters; great SP
CnC Renegade Demo - played this one alot and loved it while it lasted.
Jedi Knight 2 - pretty fun experience; lightsaber fighting was a change
BF1942 demo - fun while it lasted
UT2003 - another graphic revolution; crippled my gf2mx. good game but didnt live up to my expectations
MOHAA - great SP and kickass sound
Halo leaked version - fun at first but came old fast
Call of Duty - one of the best SP experiences ever
Max Payne 2 - got old real fast; same as first with havok physics.
UT2004 - A nice comeback for the franchise. This one still manages to keep me into gaming. GG Epic!
Painkiller - didnt last long, but it was a fun action-packed experience
Doom 3 - yet another graphic revolution; this one kills my current hardware and, even though its a great game, it's kind of turning me off of the future of gaming as i dont feel like buying hardware that will be outdated every six months.

*I don't know if I got these in the right order, but it's close enough. I'm probably forgettin some too.

Goldeneye - The game that pretty much started my desire to play more FPS.
Turok - Fun game. A lot different from goldeneye. It had a lot of blood in it which made it fun.
Turok 2 - basically the same thing as turok, except with more weapons and more blood.
Half Life - I think this was my first FPS I played on the PC.
Team Fortress - Probably my favorite mod for half-life.
Counter-Strike - I played the early beta of this game. Didn't like it too much.
Tribes - This game was fucking awesome with the different mods. I really enjoyed it.
Delta Force II - Terrible AI, and shitty graphics makes for one horrible game.
Armorines - N64 game, I bought it just cause it resembled Starship Troopers. Was a pretty crappy game. Aiming was hard as hell.
Unreal Tournament - One of my all time favorite multiplayer FPS.
Perfect Dark - A great N64 game. Pretty much improved upon Goldeneye in every way.
Deus Ex - My all time favorite game ever. This game has immersed me into it like no other has.
Quake III - Too fast paced for me. Didn't play very much.
Gunman - TC for Half-Life. Unique, but a waste of money.
Red Faction - Good game. Something new to the genre with the geomod technology.
Tribes 2 - Wasn't as fun as the first one, mainly cause I didn't play any of the mods.
Halo - I love this game. Lots of hours put into this one.
Battlefield 1942 - the game never really worked for my PC. However, When I did get to play I didn't like it very much.
RTCW: ET - I like it better than BF1942 just cause I like being infantry more than being in a tank.
Unreal Tournament 2k3 - Dissapointing, not the same UT that I remember.
Call of Duty - Fun game. Blew through the single player game. Multiplayer games weren't common(I installed a beta patch), and the weapons for opposing sides were very unbalanced.
Unreal Tournament 2k4 - Fun game, although I never really played it much.
Max Payne 2 - Great single player game but that's it lasted 12 hours.
Far Cry - I had a good time with this one, but became old as I neared completion. I never actually beat it. :(
Doom III - FUCK, good thing I didn't pay for this one.
Tribes Vengeance - Multiplayer Beta is awesome. Can't wait to play the full game.

Shit, I'm just going to take the easy way out and say that I played em all.

Wolf 3D - 7th grade. It took precedence over homework. I wish FPS's today had more boss battles like Wolf 3D.

Doom - Freshman year in HS, first week of class. I remember a kid in my class had the Knee Deep In the Dead shareware CD and he let me borrow it. A week later I went from a 25mHz to a 66mHz 486 so I could play the game in *cough* high detail. Doom really did kickstart a huge boom in pc gaming. After Doom I became a PC gaming addict and bought up every game I could for the next 6 years.

The years after that have been a blur and few FPS's stand out. Deus Ex is definately the king though. Most of my gaming time was spent on flight & space sims, the occasional RPG, and Civilization I, II, & III.

I agree, there's no way in hell I can list all of the FPS games I've played. But, I can tell you Wolfenstein 3D (not RTC) was the very first FPS I've played. I can also tell you Half-Life is still the best one I've ever played, go figure  . The newest one I've played has to be the Tribes Vengence demo. Call of Duty United Offensive is the newest one I've bought. Let's just say I've pretty much tried almost all the FPS games that were created.
