I'v just started working for this local gaming magazine. It's pretty established but they are looking for ways to expand. Now my question to you all as gamers is what are your likes and dislikes when it comes to a gaming mag?
What are the things you guys would wanna see? and what are the things that irritate you? Any kind of feedback or suggestions would be most appreciated?

Last but not least, with all kinds of info available on the internet would you peeps spend your hard earned money on a magazine??

I wouldnt buy a gaming mag because I can get all the info, videos, whatever on the internet.

Plus, I hate ads, on my pc atleast I can use pop up blockers and all that jazz.

My primary dislike for gaming mags comes from the fact that they are way overpriced for the content that they deliver. But in your case xeno if your mag can deliver good content then hell yes why not.

Our local mags suck ass when they are talking about games. For example they did a review of Need for Speed Underground and slapped the cover of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2. Wtf?

Anyways, good luck for the job.

Yeah I know what you mean. The thing is I'm trying to convince them to reduce the price a bit cos it's too fucking steep. Content wise local magazines are pretty out dated.. I'm concentrating on that at the time being. With a lot of games coming out I'm trying to keep the preview section as updated as possible, but it's kinda tough when you're so far away. Anyway thanks for your feedback man.

exactly. That was the only printed gaming literature I picked up because it felt more like you were shootin the shit with your friends about gaming and not reading previews and reviews in a technical manual format with some light-hearted humor like every other mag. You need to impletement something that you cant find in other mag's. Chances are, you wont have too much freedom as to what you say which sucks balls. Hell, if I knew what would work then I probably would go and do it myself.

I would say that the only thing that sets PC Gamer above the rest would be their exclusives. Without that, they'd be just another run-of-the-mill rag.

I loved PC Accelerator, the only gameing mag that has come close is an australian mag called Atomic, it's great, they crack jokes in screen shot captions poke fun at stupidity etc etc but no hot chicks :(

Maybe putting in stuff like behind the scenes might boost the mag's popularity. And I'm not talking about stupid facts, I'm talking old render shots, art, old sketches and how the game grew from idea to product.

O and why are you talking about PC Accelerator in the past tense? Is it gone or something?

Does anyone here read PCZone? I love the UK version. Too bad it's like 15E around here. Which is kinda expensive for a mag.

Why is that? Bad sales?

I think they had decent sales, but the content was always over the top (for here in the US) with the cursing and occasional nipple slips. I can't really remember, when I first started reading it I must of been 11-12 years old or something.

Ya, the "nudity" and swearing was why it went out of business.

Anyone remember Xcite? haha.

Way too often I find myself buying a gaming magazine only to read the content that has been all over the web months ago. I don't know...

That's a good idea. Thanks man
Nudity and swearing is not allowed, so not hot babes (even though I would love to put some in there).

That's the whole fuck up. Most gamming magazines are way too over priced cos it does cost quite a lot to make one (salaries, paper, printing etc). Like Trust said Pc Gamer offers a lot of exclusive content, so unless you have stuff like that it becomes very difficult to sustain sales.

My main goal as of now is to spread awareness among people cos sadly over here people still feel games are only for kids.

People that classify games as kids stuff are either too stupid to get into gaming themselves or wanna maintain a certain cool to make them look mature. Same goes for my parents for example, they don't understand SouthPark and all they see is a cartoon with a lot of swearing. They don't understand it's all making fun of the modern society, so they say it's inmature of me to watch it.

Exactly!! The dumb fucks over here are like "Dude grow up, you're 24 and your playing computer games". WTF!! Do these people even know how much money and effort goes into making a good game. Cunts

Sounds like a winning formula. I know a gaming website that's like that...

Yeah, it's the closest thing I've ever found to replacing PCXL. Although the AT crew doesn't get plastered and play flying sims and do a 4 or 5 page article on it. I remember a caption under a screenshot of a small plane flying into a lake was, "WEEEE, Look at me I'm JFK Junior!". God damn, that was funny.

The UK version of PC Zone used to rule about 5 years (maybe 6) ago, I don't know if it still does because they almost cost the price of a game in this country ( 2/3 of the price seriously ). Some of you might remember Culky and a cartoon strip that was kinda fucked up ( in a good way )... can't remember the characters of the damn comic though.

Yeah I loved them around the time Quake 1 came out. Bought a couple of mags after that but stopped as soon as the Dutch version replaced the UK version at the kiosks. They totally kicked ass. With total bullshit in it, like Quake screenshots mixed with pictures of themselves.
