I repaired my computer using the win xp repair and now all of a sudden my system restore doesn't work. It says:

rstrui.exe - Entry Not Found

The Procedure entry point RemoteAssistantPrepare SystemRestore (just like that...no spaces) could not be located in the dynamic link library winsta.dll

Anyone know how I can fix this? Dell said to reinstall windows, but If I reinstall windows doesn't it basically format my computer?

Thanks, and please respond ASAP. Its not my comp thats screwed its my dads, and I think the problem came from changing the Win XP boot screens. Once we changed the boot screen it would just keep rebooting before it hit the desktop, so then we repaired windows and now have this problem.

thanks

No kidding, I expreinced exactly the same shit...

This is the fastest solution:

1) copy down all the files you want to save to a disk or a CD

2) make sure you have all the drivers for your device, includes mo-bo chipset, video-audio drivers, scanner/printer drivers, all the patches and cracks for the games, all the saved files, pics... or put them into your secondary hard drive.

3) format your drives with your back-up disk (do the one woith OS first, the rest later.

4) now re-install Windows XP.

5) get all the updates from

All set. Sounds a lot of work, huh? But it works, and usually risk-free.

Now, here is a problem analysis I made, don't know if other experts agee with me or not.. Yo, ReDeeMer, Sushi, get over and help! You guys know this shit better than me!

Did you right click on the icon of "my computer", try to see the property of the computer, and see the error message? If you haven't done that, the answer should be yes. The system restore's file is dead after the restore made by your XP, for this reason I will never repair my computer, never ever again, with that CD.

Some how, your windows system is entrirely corrupted during the process of changing the boot screen. I know it is cool to have a good-looking boot screen, but it is very risky to do so. I seen people did it with no shit happened to them, but I wouldn't try it myself.

Once the system files are ruined, there is no way you can get into Windows again, because it cannot be intiated. What window would do is to kill the process right the way in order to prevent the damage of the hardwares, and depends on the setting of your CMOS, the machine might restart instead of cutting the power, thus you have endless restarts.

Becasue of the ruined system files, I bet you can't even get into the safe mode. Safe mode only disable incompatible drivers by silence all of them at once, but the core problem, such as mo-bo chipsets or system files, cannot be solved.

Without extremely sophisticated programming skills, there is no repair for you outside of the OS, so I say kill the whole deal and re-install the OS.

if you can get into safe mode, there is a windows prog called "SFC" (system file checker). it has saved my ass more than once (i turned off sys restore). i think reformatting is a last resort for those that don't already do it frequently (i even have a spare 20gig to save a ghost while i reformat).

another thing to try is, if system restore is really the problem, turn the damn thing off in safe mode.

and like Yian has pointed out, reinstalling a winNT based OS is an absolute BITCH. especially winXP, because it copies OVER your files (win9x just copied over system files, leaving you programs, background, and such in working state).

good luck..... :P

...Fixed.

WinXP didn't have the service pack in it. That was my problem. Also you can get into the windows file checker through "run".

I forgot the command though :|

its something /something ;)

lol. Sorry If I remember I'll let you know.

Thanks for your reply's though.
