ok first my system specs:
P4 2.5ghz
512 ddr
Asus P4S8X-X
Inno3d Geforce4 Ti4200 128 8x
my mobo supports 8x, my problem is when i play some games, i experience some graphical glitches, not major problems that can hinder me from playing more like an annoyance, is this a defect in the hardware itself, or is this driver related? i have one yr warranty on this one.

try playing it in 4X mode.. plus u need to update ur ASUS mobo bios and drivers maybe coz i heard that initially their 8X version was having a hell lot of problems..

yah i already tried that, and other numerous nvidia drivers, also tried dx8.1 and 9.0. i tried SiS's agp drivers, and it worked for games, but i still have that problem with Generals and UT2003, but the frame rate is solid even with full details. so this is not a problem with a defective hardware?

from all i know it is most definitely NOT a hardware issue.. u just have to tweak ur system a bit.. u already tried the bios thing.. then what else.. try using older dets.. 40.72 or 38. whatever they were.. that should get u going a bit.. the newer dets have slight problems with them..

i tried so many detonator drivers none of them worked at all, gaadd it takes sooo long for asus to provide bios updates.

Are you overclocking your card? Because you do know that it can cause nasty looking shit to pop up.... Don't you?

Hey... it might be hardware issues! The power supply! If you have a weak power supply, your games might exprience corrupt textures! Anyone think this might be the problem?

come to think of it the minimum is a 300W power supply what are u running it on?

Can you describe the graphical problems more thoroughly? UT2003 is gaining quite a reputation for being a real test of system stability. What recent games ARE running OK?

no overclocking, as for the power supply, i'm using a dual fan 300w. recent games? splinter cell, i managed to fix this using guru3d's tweaking utilities. warcraft rans fine. I managed to lessen the occurance of this glitch by using tweaking utilities and older nvidia drivers. but it just annoys the hell out of me. cuz i dont expect this from a new system.
btw i dont have any problem stability wise and this problem only occurs when i'm playing games. like i said its not a hindrance but it sure does annoy the hell out of me.

Rhenna was right... we do need more details of your probelm, such as how does the game look wheb you say there is a problem... but here are some common solutions, see if they work:
1: Turn off the vertical sync. It always screw thing up first.
2: Are you using DirecX 9? out of luck if you are because your card isn't too good with it.
3: Patch all the games of yours to the latest version.
4: Don't update the BIOS unless your system is in VERY BAD shape! it is very very dangerous!

well i'll try to describe it hehehe.
hmmm how should i put this... black rectangle/triangle shapes flickering at random times and locations, ESPECIALLY when playing Generals and after my nuclear bomb explodes.
it happens in dx8 and dx9. am using 9 right now cuz it looks great in splinter cell. do i nid to ask for a replacement for my video card?

auto
right now it's set to auto
am currently using agp 8x

hey now.......don't be messing with AGP voltage unless u overclock :)
leave it at auto or set it to 1.5v
seriously, don't mess with that. it's like the driving value(the kind of thing u don't touch).......

no 1.7! never ever go to 1.7!!!!! geforce4 chips can't takhe 1.7!!! it eill shortene3d your chip's life a bery great deal! might even fry it right away!
it does sound more and more like corrupt textures to me now... although you have a 300w power supply, i doubt iy performs well on different types of voltage... or maybe it output factot is less than 50%, then you have only 150w...
is it possible for you to put up all the specs on your power supply here?

1.7v is a nice feature once u start headin on 200mhz FSB without a 6:1:2 divider. and PSU's are all about quality, and you're right; most systems don't use above 170w. even mine with 4 HD's probably doesn't hit 230. it's all about the quality of the rails. i haven't read much of this post, but there's my bit of technical input........
oh, and 1.7v at default clocks will NOT shorten life. it WILL fry (i can ALMOST guarantee it)

i only tried it at 1.5v. i think i'll just ask for a replacement for my video card.
btw i only have one hard drive a seagate 80gigs 7200rpm
a cd rom and a floppy drive, so i dont think i really nid an upgrade for my power supply. anyways how can u remedy corrupt textures

drivers......what are you using currently? and which have you tried?
Yian

Method1, if you already know this then it might sound stupid, but have you try to tweak with the settiings from the games, instead of the hardware, to see if it is the game that is messing up the textures?
Try disable all the fancy settings first, put them back on one by one, a standrad procedure of troubleshooting... (use a save game that demonstrate the problems for quick results, such as a nuke scene.)
Without actually seeing the thing, you are the best dude yourself to fix it. Happy troubleshooting, my friend!

ei thnx for all of ur suggestions... much appreciated. anyways as for the drivers. am currently using 41.09 cuz it works great in splinter cell. and yes yian i also tried ur suggestion. but it didn't work. i tried so many drivers, i can't seem to get 30.82 to work on windows xp. i can't install the damn thing hehehe. i downloaded the drivers straight from nvidia's website. i also tried their latest one 43. something and also 40.72 and 30+ drivers.

April 5th, 2003, 12:28 AM
30 drivers aren't great......i suggest the latest 43.45 actually, and if not those, the 42.86's. anyway, i meant to ask, are your glitches artifacts? or are they missing textures? or what? that really determines if it's the card or software....

hahha tell me bout it, i was talking to one of the store's resident technician, and he was telling me that they had to make many replacements on their high-end products.
