I have modified 2 camera mods ( by a guy called Hawker ) to make one mod that has decent in-car cam and other interesting views.

First you need to download this file. It will allow you to unpack the bfs files in the game directory. Its a command line program so you need to use cmd and type "bfsunpack ******.bfs" in the FlatOut directory.

BFS Unpack (ftp://ftp.planet-multiplayer.de/sites/flatouthq.com/tools/bfsunpack.zip)

Once the files are unpacked move filesystem.ini and the .bfs files out of the flatout directory ( you can delete them, but rather move them if you get stuck and need to put them back ). If you don't remove the filesystem.ini it will still look for the .bfs files.

This will also allow you to play the ogg music files in WMP as long as you have the ogg codecs ( google it ;p ).

Extract Mycamera.rar (http://www.section8.za.net/Flatout/mycamera.rar) into it the directory called \data\cars\car_2 or which ever car you use. Just load up the skins to see which car is is or something.

To make these cameras work in the replays its a bit more difficult and annoying, I will try and find an easy solution.

Enjoy.

Edit: I just found out that the replays do reference the cars camera.ini so you just have to wait and it may randomly use one of these camera positions.

Damn you saw through my elaborate plan, slowly get to a non-n00b post count then unleash hell with my 1kb rar file. I was totally gonna pwn all your systems.

Now back on topic, its based on Hawkers mod (http://hawker.smugmug.com/gallery/296854/1/11782490) so all credit goes to him, except this adds a better internal camera. Check out that link for some pics of the different views.

Playing FlatOut from inside the car is really interesting, especially when your engine catches on fire and your hood pops up. RAD will hopefully appreciate it.

They have a link to BFS-Exporter and a little help thread for it here, along with other tools for FlatOut.

I'm assuming you have the full FlatOut game (I've only played the demo) so could you answer a few questions?

1. Can you do one-player races? Like time attack?

2. Do you have to get past certain levels to get to those destruction arenas? I loved the high jump in the demo.

3. Are there cars that have better control than that fucking car in the demo? I swear that's what made me never able to place in any race.

4. Can you change camera views during replays?

1. Yes

2. Mostly, I think highjump is part of the ones that come unlocked.

3. Kinda, just learn how to drive on sand/ice and you won't have a problem. I assume you have never played a rally sim? AFter playing Colin Mcrae 4 FlatOut is actually too easy on normal handling. Haven't tried professional yet.

4. No, it has fixed cameras and in the gaps between the fixed cams it randomly cycles through the cameras on the car. They are normally pretty good though.

Thanks. And no, I've never played a rally sim...in fact, I haven't played many racing games in my life (at least I've never owned any) but the highjump level was just so damn fun, and I like all the objects that you can break/hit on the maps; after what you've said, I might actually have to pick this one up.
