I think this would be a pretty good idea

just a thread for people posting cool free stuff they find around the internet

lots of companies periodicaly give fre samples of ther crap out /free magazine subscriptions/hardware/software ect..and sometimes its good stuff. anyone else think its a good idea? or would it be considered advertizing?

example

Free Absolut Vodka Drink Book, Playing Cards, etc.

http://absolut.com/access

If you are already an Absolut member enter the site, log in and click on "SWAG" on the bottom of the page.

If you are not a member enter the site, register, confirm registration in your e-mail and then log in and click on "SWAG" on the bottom of the page.

my friend has done it and has the book and i should be getitng it soon. I have also goten subscriptions for playboy, Stuff, and FMH through other places that do stuff like this.

yeah, but most of the things online are scams and a waste of time

right now i'm doing that crap read emails and get paid. its been almost two months and all i got is about 56cents . i've gotten tons of their mails but still the final amount i made is this.

its just better to earn the money and buy the stuff u want. It would be WAAYYYYYYY easier to do that :p

I think it's a good idea for a thread... or maybe a section in Off-Topic?

This also might attract more advertising fucks, though. Discuss amongst yourselves and I'll discuss with Smappy boy.

I'm going to need some convincing and some serious regulations on this idea.

We'll make this strict. Post specific instructions how to recieve free shit. What you need to give, what you can get, and what information you need to give (ie, e-mail address or address, etc etc) and you have to of tested it yourself before you post.

So for example:

Found a link to get a free Rammstein CD.

Go to: www.somebullshitwebsiteIjustmadeup.com/ramm/signup

You need to put in your e-mail, an address, and verify your age. I got an e-mail a few hours later saying I had been accepted. I got a bunch of ads in my e-mail, so create a temp hotmail account for it. Etc etc. See what I'm saying?

i think it will be cool as long as the person posting its tests it out and makes sure its not some scam or crap of that sort.

this is lifted straight from another forum's version of this. i know of at least one other member here that visit it( i think). if you want the forum name PM me.

THE RULES

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. No auction links such as eBay are allowed eBay stores or listings with BuyItNow do not count as auctions and so are allowed.
2. No posting of anything that should be posted in the FS/FT forum.

3. If you feel a posted "Deal" is bad due to price then post a good reason.

4. No Dealers, or Wholesalers are allowed.

5. NO FLAMING! If you do, you will be banned.

6. ABSOLUTELY NO firearms, drugs (or ANY controlled substances), alcohol, illegal copies of any software, or any ill-gotten hardware.

7. No PRICE CHECK posts allowed.

8. Posts should include the item in the subject and a price and linked seller in the body of the post.

9. No clickthrough referral sites allowed, you will be nick-banned and ip-banned immediately.

10. No Hosting deals of any kind.

and for deals

(again lifted straight, not claiming ot make these up on my own)

The purpose of this forum is for people to share hot deals that they find with others. It is not a personal shopper. It is not for you to come here and ask for a good deal and make others do the legwork for you. Therefore we ask that you stop posting “request” threads. All such threads will be locked from this point forward. Also it has become obvious that a request sticky doesn’t work very well, so we won’t be using that either.

If you are looking for a good deal on an item and see nothing posted on the forums, here’s what we suggest you do:

1. SEARCH the forum to make sure a hot deal isn’t already posted.
2. Use sites such as other sites to find a good deal.
3. AFTER doing some legwork on your own, if you still aren't satisfied with the prices, come to the forums and start a thread posting a link to the best price you could find on that item, then welcome others to post better deals in your thread if they can find any.

We also ask that you stop posting “Look what I just got in the mail!” type threads. If you are excited and you want to brag about your cool new item, we suggest you do one of the following:

1. SEARCH and find the old thread that allowed you to get the cool item, and REPLY to that, bumping it to the top.
2. use this thread to brag about your new item.
3. Start a new thread, explaining to others (with links if necessary) about how to get the item, and then include your cool pics of the item.

Whenever you post a [freebie item], make sure you uncheck the box by "Automatically parse URLs: automatically adds [url} and [/url] around internet addresses." so that people have to cut-and-paste the address to visit the deal's link. This is so that it doesn't appear to the site that all the deal exploiters are coming from AT

More specifically--so that Actiontrip.com isn't seen as the referrer to the deal's page.

If you don't understand, just do it anyway!!

Remember--if you want these deals to last longer, don't give people clickable links.

Thank you for your time.

If you order online and there's a rebate offer, what do you use as a receipt?

99% of the time one of these will be fine:
1. A print out of the confirmation page from the website
or
2. A copy of the packing slip/invoice from the package.

Check the fine print of the rebate for possible instructions, or if you are not confident, call the 1-800 number listed on the rebate for instructions.

Of course with all rebates, keep copies of EVERYTHING in case they deny it so you can contest.

those are the rules of the other forum with a deal section. I think that if properly watched by mods and regular members than it could work well and not be abused.

also if the idea is shot down i have no hard feelings ill just come hunt you down and rape your pet:)

Yeah, the HardOCP forums has something just like this. The problem is that these deals for free stuff don't come around too often and they tend not to work (Mainly the magazine ones). We could make one and see how it goes.....

I'd add a further stipulation to Downfall's list of (recycled) guidelines; namely that the original poster would need to be someone with, say, one hundred (legitimate) posts in other areas of the Forums, as a minimum. This would be just as an additional means to filter-out the trolls and hit-and-run subhumans. It hardly seems likely that this would exclude any of the faithful from using this proposed section.

I don't know if the vBulletin software can link a minimum post count to the permission to use a particular thread and/or sub-Forum, (what a great feature if it can!), so it would just be an additional item for the moderators to keep an eye on. But, such an area is undoubtedly going to need a fair amount of scrutiny anyway; an initial post-count hurdle might provide an easy to monitor, and clearly enforceable criteria as a first line of defense.

maybe you guys should upgrade to vBulletin 3? it has a user reputation feature, rather than just using the post counts, that might be an idea for regulating who are the regulars and who are the trolls

Yes. I'm scared that I (the person that keeps trolling and calling gay people "fags") might get a bad reputation. Your observation skills are superb I must say.

Smapdey

Right.

I could give certain people certain privledges, but I'd have to do it all by hand, and it would be a request only sort of deal.

if you're scared of a bad rep, don't try so hard to be such a bad boy...

BTW if you call them "fags" you're insulting them too

It seemed to start as a personal attack here. Why don't you just make a flame thread in the flame bin and go crazy there or something, make life easier on everyone.

focus people!....

free crap/good deals thread

seems some want it, some dont.

seems like it would be a good bit of work for it to function properly and properly protect the site and the users against trolls, but ultimately seems worth it.
