The overusage of the word "fag"

Man this really bugs me, the use of the term "fag" online over the past couple of years has exploded!! It drives me nuts, it seams like the only insult people can come up with nowadays is calling someone a fag. just about everything you do that makes someone angry in a game or chat room they call you a fag. example: say your playing WIII and you beat a n00b and you say: "man I just pwned j00, j/k, what you should have done was build up your defences on the north side of your base." then they say "oh yeah well your a FAG!!!" then they leave. or in a chat room and you say to a guy who's using caps all the time "hey could you cut the caps it's getting anoying...." then the jerk will call you a "fag", like always. It just get too predictable and anoying if you ask me :( what do you think?

you know, it's overuse might be a good thing, cause then it totally loses it's meaning. that way, the only really lame people will be the ones using it, not those that truly mean it. as i read cr3am's post, i kinda think even gay people are starting to let it pass like nothing (just maybe...)

I agree that the word is overabused and overaped by too many idiots around. Sushi you have a point there but its weak. People don't forget the real meaning behind it and that's what stays in their minds. For example take the word "spinster." Nothing wrong with it but the meaning attached to it gives it a negative connotation.

and i agree with you. it's all about context. what's even worse is when people get overly sensitive and take it out of context(in my opinion).

The word fag is so gay. :) I dunno, since i never hang out in the chat room at battle.net, just hit play. And I'm not at school anymore. I suppose in gradeschool the kids use it a lot but in high skool it's all like "Your parents didn't buy you a $30,000 toyota truck with a lift!" and you are all like "Uh...yeah...but i have a much faster computer than you." and THEN they say "FAG!".

Hehehe. Actually I was never really bothered by the stupid kids since I played chess every lunch break in...get this...the chess club. Or M:TG. As the peeps up in penny-arcade said about the kids that called wind waker "for kids" the people who use the word fag are just plain immature. I seriously doubt they've read any good books lately, or else they would have more interesting insults like "water stealer".

Oh yeah, i think another reason people use it has to do with the fact that some people are homo-phobic because they are afraid of the fact that they themselves might be gay. You never see intelligent people who are secure in thier sexually use the terms "fag" or "gay" as an insult if at all.

So, cr3am, the next time some lamer calls you "fag", just say "Are you using that term because you are insecure in your sexuallity and may possibly be gay yourself? Perhaps you should take a look at yourself and think hard about that."
