I have a pretty decent computer, I think. I have a good motherboard using VIA chipset (some say that VIA's chipset isn;t very stable... I haven't meet any problems), and a P4 2.6 Ghz on it with a big copper core heatsink and a big fan...I have a 3D Prophet 9700 Pro with 128 mb, I have 512 DDR rams, two hard drives, 4 USB port, 2 firewire ports, Two monitors one goes to 1024x768 and another goes to 2048x1536. I have a DVD burner, too...

And what do I do with this rig most of the time...?

I surf internet a lot (with that onboard network on my mo-bo). I listen to CDs with that DVD burner, and I sometimes do some art works. I stuffed my harddrives with babe's pics. Occasiionally I play some games, like StarCraft, AOK, sometimes SOFII or CounterStrike. I play a lot of minesweeper and Battle Tetris, and Pinball...

So, do you guys think I deserve this machine?

What what do you do with your computer, Freak? If you play a lot of games, your computer makes sense... but look at me... The reason I posted my specs is because I want to let people see how I'm wasting all these stuff in my hand by not using them...

No you simple fools! High end computers were not created for the gaming, but for the making of games. People like gamers don't need these high end computers. Sure, you get an extra fps or two, but 99% of the time you are wasting the full capacity of the computer. Having a great computer is ridiculous - Take my friend's uncle: He bought a $4,000 system. I asked him "why?" - for playing EA soccer games. I mean, c'mon some people actually need these computers to do their job, but the public does not.

Edit: Oh and by the way RAY16, that's a bit excessive. It makes me sick to think that you are selling stuff every few months so you can play games that only require 32 mb video cards and 700 mhz processor!

JerraMaya
April 8th, 2003, 02:11 AM
well Shadow i said i earn my money to update my pc and if i sell something for $50 which i bought for $60 three months ago b4 it turns into a shit and i have nothing to do with it than to eat it or throw it , its a simple rule of business , and i have buyers for my stuff u dont so please this is a lame excuse u gave without thinking , and if they have bought a computer worth 4000 first of all they must have the power to afford it for a game and next it might come in handy afterwards 2 in good earning use ok :D

Nah I was just kidding about my specs. Too lazy to post the real ones but thats the system I want. I have some of that stuff like the speakers and stuff but not all of it.

Shadow, you CAN'T be serious! We wouldn't have anything near the hardware available today if it wasn't for gaming, IMO. Gaming is driving the entire industry, and has been for years. Look at the box-art for ANY video card sold in the last 5 years, except, I guess, some of the Matrox products. They all have some game-related art.

Nobody is buying a 3GHz P4 to run Word or Excel. (I hope.) OK, running digital photo-related apps is another great reason to own a high-end rig, too. All these blood-red and ice-blue motherboards and video cards aren't aimed at the corporate PC user.

If it wasn't for gamers pushing the envelope, always demanding more, then state of the art today MIGHT WELL BE a 700MHz processor and a 32Mb video card. But, would you want to run, say, Medal Of Honor, UT2003 or Raven Shield or such a rig? Might not matter, 'cause if that's the best we had, those games probably wouldn't exist.

Whell I think it was a bit of a cyclical thing. Hardware manufacturers pushed their hardware so us gamers could say we could run such and such a game at such and such a frame rate. The game would run perfectly fine on a lower end system, but there's no prestige. Eventually there'd be enough people that have the hardware and developers would dump the old platforms, forcing the laggers to catch up. And then we're back to where we started. :)

Certainly that was the case in the early 3d accelerator market. Now I see a lot more emphasis on image quality.

it is due to high tech and better graphics v can play games like UT 2003 and Splinter Cell ,without it v would still be playing games like donkey kong all our lives , v have to stay with the tech as much as v can and change aur stuff according to that when v need it and when v can purchase it ,so gaming industry boosted so much in these years it has even left hollywood behind thats coz of graphics and processing speed the new tech gave us

What I'm talking about is that people think that they need amazing computers to play games ... I'm mostly bitching about the people who have a 3 ghz P4 and just use it to write email and talk on MSN...

Though gamers have helped to spur the uprise in processor power, I think that they don't need to buy new $5000 copmuters just to get extra fps. I can understand if you need a fast computer for a long term investment, but for gamers who are constantly upgrading, it's a bit much.

$5000 a gamer can get a Dream Machine in that here , and yeah spending to much is bad if u cant sell it in time , best way is upgrade regularly ( according to ur need ) and keep up with the tech

Well, our game probably isn't good enough for game design or more hevy duty yet... just gaming machine. Anyone here using FireGL X1 or nVidia's Quadro? They are some nice ass commercial cards that is freaking expensive, too!!! But they are so much better!!!

I subscribed to an British grpahic design magazine recently, called Computer Arts, and it has many hardware reviews... things like Radeon 9700 isn't even in their consideration... I once saw a graphics card with like four fans on it.... wow that has to be heavy duty!!!

yeah Yian Speacial edition cards are always coming in the market for people , i saw once a card it was from Asus and its was more in length than the motherboard and when place it on a slot it was way more than the main board limits and had two fans on it and the goodies with it were awesome , it was made for super graphics and animation work

Yeesh, who buys computers? Ever heard of doing it yourself? Why in my day, you were lucky if the motherboard was in one piece, and only required 17 different switch settings to work right! And we liked it! Ya had to walk 15 miles uphill in the snow to buy a card that supported VGA, we didn't have no fancy newegg.com to deliver it to us, and we liked it!

Um...sorry...really though, it's fun, easy, and cheap to upgrade your pc instead of buying a new one. And commercial cards aren't really all that great at running games. They are excellent for accuracy, but will usually have about 1/2 the speed of a consumer card in games.
