I found this game a while ago but it was a closed beta, it sounded interesting. It's an MMORPG without any levelling up or hunting for items, instead it's an FPS. It sounded kinda like Planetside except it wasn't repetitive. The open beta started a while ago I guess but I just remembered it and decided to look at the site.

I've been playing for two days now so I know what's going on. There are 12 factions, 10 of them joinable from the start. The game doesn't have any NPCs in charge, no. Each faction has it's own leader and he's a PC. And he's NOT selected by the devs. The leader is in charge. Example? I'm FDC (military) and our leader just restructered the military. He made new divisions, etc. And then he explained the concept to people he thought were good leaders for the divisions, then they trained people. Pretty much like real life.

There are 3 main groups; Government, Corporations, and Clans.

The government has the cops, the military, and the intelligence (only joinable after you proved your loyalty, which takes a shitlong time). The cops mainly stand around areas and keep the peace, and then help people when they're being harassed. Most of the time we get orders from HC to head to a cop-controlled area because the cop HC need backup because they can't handle it. The military, we mainly patrol areas right now. It's not exciting all the time. Captains or Sergeants (depending on who signed up for the mission) pick a team and each of them patrol an area they are assigned to (the guy in charge of the entire mission dictates that). Sometimes we don't have any missions, so you're free to do whatever you want.

Credits are important because you need to be able to buy weapons and armor. In the military at first you're given this stuff at basic training, but that can take a day because there aren't trainers around 24/7 so you might have to buy your own gear with the starting 50k credits. If you actually do play the game, I don't recommend buying armor because it will be looted off you when you die (when, not if).

I'm bored explaining crap. The location servers are down right now so I just thought I'd make a post about it. Oh, the game is hard at first because there's no tutorial and sometimes there is nobody around to help. If you can't figure it out after a while then this game is not made for you so fuck off.

User generated missions, I don’t know seems like a real hit to the balance of the game overall. PC lootable bodies? Ooooh, very bad idea. Patrolling the streets doesn’t seem to be all that appealing either.
I wont even talk about GFX, screenshots pretty much say everything for themselves...

It's called an MMOFPS, just because a game's MMO doesn't make it an MMORPG.

I've never heard of it. Doesn't sound too exciting either. I'll just go buy Pirates!

It says right on their website that it is supposed to be an MMORPG, though.

http://www.fomportal.com/index.php?page=whatisfomk.php&lang=en&section=1

Face of Mankind is a Massively Multiplayer Online RolePlaying Game (MMORPG) in a persistent world. You will control a single character in the science fiction game-world. It will be available for download in 2005. Once installed on your PC you will have access to an ever changing game-world via your internet connection. Thousands of players throughout the game world co-operate, compete or co-exist in a realistic and futuristic world of the 24th century.

Further down on the samw page it does say it also have action elements, but obviously it considers role-playing a big part.

For some reason the graphics reminds me of Deus Ex.

I played this as soon as it went OB and it was ok. The missions were a little weak, but this one time we were supposed to guard an area against some faction and one of the enemies came by us and said, 'hi.' We of course killed him but he kept coming back asking why we were shooting at him, none of us answered and we just shot him. Poor bastard, that and the rest of the team started to argue who should kill him...

Hopefully they implemented the objects in your house to do something, since they were worthless back then.

']Well I just registered. Let's see if I get in.

You get in. Just go into your account settings and make a game account. It's open beta.

As for the people that says it sucks, try it. It's great because it's unpredictable. One week everything is quiet and boring and another weak a war breaks out. As for what RAD said, yes, it's a hard game. You can lose everything fast. But missions pay a lot. For example, a full set of armor costs around 24k. I get paid 100k per low priority mission. But I get paid 7 days from each mission. So it takes a while, first week is always hardest. The missions aren't dull at all. Sometimes it's just routine patrols, like right now we're trying to keep Brooklyn safe so we have patrols going there 24/7. The mercs are hitting it hard. But a war will probably break out soon if they don't stop. Like last night, all army personnel were called to report to the main army vessel, GDS Yukon. Then we launched an attack on Andromeda, the mercs main city. It's escalating.

Well I'm downloading the game torrent as we speak. It sounds interesting and the fact that the graphics are a bit dated is plus for me.

I don't mind the graphics, i'm staying focused on what Tisl stated above, this sounds like the fix i've been waiting for since playing the original KOTOR.

I also registered, see yall ingame.

Gameplay? Well. The shooting is a bit weird at first, it's not like your typical FPS where you spit bullets. Shooting isn't as smooth. Audio is odd. Like in a Brooklyn mall, it's 3 floors and it's open in the middle. So the top floor can spit on the guys at the bottom floor. If I was walking on the middle floor I would hear the footsteps of the person walking directly above me on the floor above. It's not noticeable at first, only until you get a lot of patrols. Animation is kinda crappy too. Your hips don't look attached to your torso, it's very rough. The game is still in beta but even when it's released it won't have super duper Guild Wars graphics. Despite all that, this is the best online game I have played. Fun and interest wise. What I mean is, listen to my battle story, I think it gives a good idea of the game.

Today on a patrol we got a message from high command to go to the GDS Yukon again. There has been a group of guys with the DL tag who kept causing a lot of trouble. They were like their own little army. We regrouped and reequipped at GDS and then went to Andro City. We killed all the DL. They regrouped in New York, we hunted them down there too. It's really awesome to have an actual person give you missions. HC is all busy talking on ventrillo and communicating with their spies, we're on standby until further orders, nervously waiting around, HC gets the intel and hands it down to the colonels, colonels order the captains and the captains give us missions and lead us into battle.

The story doesn't describe the game though. It's just a typical day in the FDC.

Note: My sentence structure and stuff is crap because I can't focus on anything when I log out the game. I'm serious. Good thing I dropped out of high school by the time I started playing.

now that I look at it a bit, it looks kind of interesting. Might try it out later. How big's the file? I have a crappy tiny hdd, and only have about 5gigs of space left, so size is an issue.

Ok, guess I won't be trying this out since it doesn't let me. I filled in the thing, and they just e-mailed me a password for their stupid forum, which doesn't even let me log on.

lol some punk ass cop shot me because I was running around with my knife out.. that sob is going to die, i'm GDC dammit.

So far the user created missions suck, i'm starting to think the final version will still suck.. think Freelancer, only ground based and that is the after taste that this game will leave you with. If anything the game feels more like it's in the alpha stage not beta.. if the final product is anything like this - another one bites the dust.

Planetside move over, leave some room in the graveyard for this title here.

Wow, this game sucks ass. Whenever I try to get a mission it doesn't have any. WTF? No missions no action. I just logged out of the third session without a shot fired. WTF is this game?

Another nice thing about this title is the upper-level players with their big egos. Shouting commands at me because I'm sitting down somewhere. Fuck them. This game fucking sucks....don't even think about downloading this POS

Hitman
May 20th, 2005, 05:10 PM
lol yeah those big ego guys are funny ass. I have an experience like yours, the first time that I went into the game and didn't have a clue what the fuck was going on, I asked a random guy in a group how to buy shit and he killed me.. the same day I was exploring and went to Chinatown, I so got jacked there.. some fucker with full armor and a plasma gun ganked my ass. I'm all armored up now but and i'm looking for his punk ass.

Overall the game sucks, I won't be buying it.. it's just another shitty game that I can add to my beta list.

I am not surprised. There are just things that can not be left at players disposal (mission/quest creation being one)...
And I will say it again, PC lootable bodies is a BAD IDEA.
As for gameplay I just fail to see how patrolling the streets is supposed to captivate my interest. The last thing I want to be doing in a MMORPG is working, I can get an abundance of that at you know, real work...
