View Full Version : The E3 Thread

I figured this week there will be so much shit being found over the net because of E3 a lot of us will want to post the shit here. Most of the E3 PC shit needs to go in this thread. If you guys find other very huge and just to great to be in this thread game then knock yourself out and make a specific thread for it. Bluesnews.com has some nice shit already. I found this pic of a new id game. I found it very interesting.

So starts the E3 PC coverage!

First up: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Announced [May 16, 2005, 2:30 pm EDT]
id Software and Activision announce Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, a class-based multiplayer shooter in the works at Splash Damage to debut at E3. The game will be built on a new technology from id called MegaTexture™ "that crunches millions of polygons and a gigabyte-scale texture into a single, seamless and un-tiled landscape with unique detail down to the square inch or the un-obscured distant horizon" (though the Splash Damage Website clarifies this is on top of the DOOM 3 engine). Accompanying the announcement is a (massive) first screenshot, and here's word, which does not include a release date or target platforms:

Check this shit out (screen shot) http://www.bluesnews.com/screenshots/games/etqw/20050516/edf_base_scramble.shtml

It kinda does have a Doom 3 engine look to it.

MegaTexture isn't an engine, it's just a feature they added to the Doom 3 engine.

It does sound very exciting that you can play through basically the entire trilogy and plus. But Shiny has a spotty past with that lame matrix game, so hopefully they don't screw up on gameplay execution.

I read on Gamespot that the new engine they use is really good, with distortion effect and capable of rendering lots of agents. This might just be the Matrix game that's going to cut it.

Bhazard
May 16th, 2005, 04:46 PM
I for one didn't absolutely hate Enter the Matrix. Sure it wasn't the greatest of games, but it had its moments. I do admit, the fact that you could only play niobe and ghost was kind of... actually very idiotic. But it was still enjoyable enough for me to reach the end.... yet not enjoyable enjoyable enough to be played through twice. For being one of the first Matrix games to be released(or atleast to my knowlage) it wasn't all that bad of a game. I'm no programer or game designer, but I'd say Matrix is probably very hard to translate to game form.

This is the way I see it. Shiny's has past experience with making a matrix game, and judging from the last game, only has room to improve. Any other developer would have to start from scratch, and wouldn't have any learned lessons from passed mistakes.

Sorry for that, I'm a huge Matrix fan boy. I have a poster of Neo(Revolutions) on my wall.

It's called Shadow of the Colossus.. Sounds pretty wierd since it's only full of boss fights.

I'm really looking forward to Serious Sam II.

Trailer downloadable from official site on Wednesday.
Oblivion might very well be the end-all RPG exprience, if they just keep the following things in mind and deliver them into our hands:

1) Keep all the good part of Morrowind

2) Get rid of all the stupid part of Morrowind

3) Keep the graphics look just like in the screenshots they have released so far.

4) a game editor like TESCS.

Man, Seeing all the great RPG games out there these days are either too short, or must be online (MMORPG, especiall Guild Wars, not being able to play it hurts me much...! :( ) Oblivion might be the salvation!

Hopefully Oblivion won't crash as much as Morrowind ,a hopefully it will have much less bugs.

You thought most of that PS3 footage was pretty amazing? If you want to watch pre-rendered stuff I guess thats fine. Mark Rein has announced that the entire presentation except for "Gears of War" was pre-rendered.

"Sony demos being shown by Phil Harrison, the Epic and EA presentations were the only third party portions actually running on the PS3 in real-time."

Looks like sony is doing the same crap they did with the PS2, which was supposed to be able to render toy story in realtime.

While I personally don't really like the 3d, I don't think we have to worry about them dumbing it down too much or making it more violent, as it sounds like they're working on peaceful ways to win more, having refined Culture, and adding religion.

I read the Gspot impressions last night and from the sound of it they're revamping a lot of the game....in a VERY good way. New diplomacy system, religeon, "Great" people, tech tree, fixed culture (border cities were about as stable as Uzbekistan in III), Leaders, Combat, Gov't.....and supposably a ton of others. In actuality it shouldnt even be called Civilization but I'm still glad to see that instead of just taking part III, tweaking it and adding a few new features, they're taking it apart and putting it back together. Who really liked micromanaging workers to clean up pollution anyway?

I saw those tech demos as well they were pretty nice. So many objects on screen at once and no hint of slow down unlike the 360. The most impressive one of all was the real time render face of Alfred Molina from Spider Man 2. His face was so real looking, at first I was thinking its just a stiff modeled head that has real time shadows and light. Then they made it talk and I nearly pissed myself. If the PS3 has in game graphics even half that good I will be very impressed.
