alright...so I was stupid enough to go out in the sun all day at a 6000-foot elevation and not put any sunblock on, but now I'm left with a sunburn that could kill a yak....I got over the sun poisoning part a few days ago (think vomiting around the clock, exhaustion, and enough dizziness to keep you from falling asleep)....but I'm still left with blisters all over my arms, shoulders, and back....I've got some hydrocodone for the pain (thank god for having a surgeon for a father), but I was wondering if anybody had any experiences that might make the next few days a bit more bearable....

that helped the first couple of days, before the skin started blistering (I've got one on my arm the size of a pepperoni)....I'm terrified to rub anything into it now for fear of popping anything...I've already been advised that there might be some scarring, so I'm trying to minimize that as much as possible....

You might try some cool baths with that oatmeal bath water softener... it's called Aveeno. It's used a lot of time for kids that get into poison ivy, or who have chicken pox...but it is good for soothing sunburnt skin too.
Your local store should have it in-stock and it's not expensive.
Read about it here (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=16475&catid=1252&brand=7836&trx=PLST-0-BRAND&trxp1=1252&trxp2=16475&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-BRAND&cmbProdBrandFilter=7836)

...this just in....my historically strong immune system has decided to not let the Vicodin do its thing....so now I'm sitting around with the rather curious feeling of expanding blisters....

So get off yer lazy ass and get the camera and tripod ;)
I seriously wish you the best though, man. I fucking hate sunburns and thus hate the sun. G'luck.
OH! I just thought of another remedy: sleep a lot. Catch up on all the sleep you've ever lost in your life. As long as you're asleep, you won't notice the pain, so do it. Do it now. Er, do it after you take those fucking pictures!

...pretty crude, but they get the general point across....maybe I'll take another set tomorrow to give y'all an idea of how quickly these bitches are filling up (the ones on the front weren't there this morning)...I couldn't really get a good pic that showcased the smaller ones that pretty much cover my shoulders, upper back, and upper arms, not to mention the actual sunburn that's on everything below my knees and above my hips...

Ah yes, i rember those kind of burns, "Went to Wet and Wild water World" [sounds like a porn movie.] and my brother go those down both arms, after a day or too, all the liquid kind of gathers together like in the top pic, but in the bottom pic, in a bout a day or two, your gonna want to have a box of tissues around, once it scabs over a little, the slightest brush against it will pop is, and all that liquid will drain out of the one hole.
But on the brightside, dont give up on the Aloe vera, Apply it with cotton balls if its too painful to do by hand.

lol....not kicking back, its just not doing anything (we're talking two 500mg tablets, too).....I'll definitely ask for a different prescription, though....I'll probably get Tylenol3 or something similar....
....and good call on the cotton, Kain....should help considerably....

I know that this is a little off topic from the(SUN) damage that has been done recently. But If I can offer any of you guy"s advice is this COVER up And Wear sunscreen. My wife is 45 and has recently gotten over a bout of skin cancer. The doctor said that it was directly related to the amount of sun she exposed herself to earlier in her life.So Cover up!Looking at those pic"s I can see there is quite a bit of damage.

looking at the pics I'd say you got some first degree burns man. Jesus christ I didn't even know that was possible by just walking around in the sun.

I'm no expert, but I'd say that's more than first degree.

a regular sunburn is first degree....the blistered portions are second degree....

First degree is the lightest, third degree is the worst. I'd say he's ot third degree.

Third degree is skin hanging off your body. I think this is either a one or a two.
King Speedy
July 31st, 2005, 02:23 PM
yeah....I've seen third degree before and it ain't pretty...I've got mostly first with some blotches of second....third degree burns are when the skin actually dies, and you have to get grafting surgery to transplant portions from other parts of the body....you usually only see them in fires or bad chemical burns...

just get a friend wiht a very sharp knife (preferable a kitana or something similar) and have him whack away at em till your all cured (or cut up all to hell...but at least then you wont mind the blisters)

I've been told that vinegar takes the sting out of burns, but with the type of burns you got, I don't know how well that would work.

I was looking at a medical site the other day and they said NOT to try any home cooked potions or "cures". They will probably worsen the situation and double the chance of getting nasty scartissue.

i was talking to my gf about it yesterday (shes a med student and we are in skin-cancer capital of the world) and she said the worst thing you can do is cover it with something like lube or jelly. you need to let the fucker breath, so if you cream it its gotta be lite, like aloe vera, and when it starts peeling your going to want some dermotological repair creams (she recomends "Skin repair" but i dunno if you guys in the states have it) but not too much so it can breathe, but just enough to hopefully stop the horrific scarring, and just leave it at multicoloured blotches

That is really really disgusting. Reminds me of my first week of football in my freshman year of highschool. My cleats hadn't been broken in and they caused blisters in my heels the size of quarters. After three 2 a day practices the blisters had worn down so that the bone was showing. It was so severe they gave me cream used to treat third degree burns to take care of it.
Make sure you keep those popped blisters clean. If one of them gets infected you'll be in so much more pain. Sun burn sucks, and due to my red hair I'm all too familiar with it.
