Come on, console is never going to be as goos as PC!
Okay, for $1000, you can actually get a lot of good stuff. You need to be more specific on details, though. Do you want a generic DVD rom, or a burner? What kind of sound quality do you desire? What kind of games do you usually play?

Currently my computer is a pos and cant run very many games, but i am into all the MMORPG's and Shooters. I'd like 2 rom's one for burning dvd's and one for quick transfer onto the disk and sound quality isnt a priority but i'd like something moderate. i'd like something that runs games really smoothly at a high fps and a large screen size (something like 1280x960) that way it looks real nice.

if sound isnt an issue and you want moderate then look at an Audigy2 value. i have one, and i swear by it. couple that with some midrange logitech 5.1s and you have a very formidable sound setup - cost me $AUD200, probably about $US100-150
and monitor - acer lcds are crashing in price, but dont forget to get one with DVI input so you can get the best out of it when using a relatively new videocard
input - logitech again. if you arent too big on peripherals n shiz, just take logitech as a rule of thumb for speakers, keyboards, mice, webcams, controllers, etc.

Leaves about 60 bucks for a PSU. I'd reccomend Enermax, Thermaltake, Antec, etc etc. Doesn't really matter all that much, as long as it has a strong volt rail, and at least 400w.
Have a nice day. Please, anyone feel free to critize, especially the motherboard, I'm not totally up to par with the 64 mobos at this moment. (939)
As for monitor, HD, (sound if applicable) mouse, keyboard. Raid your old computer. Saves you a couple hundred. If not, then I guess that renders my options unacceptable.

I'll be able to respond to that once I order my LCD - it's looking like my only option at this price is the Samsung, which has a decent enough response time that gaming is possible.

i dont know what you crt-whores are on, but i bet half of you have never really played games with an lcd, and if you did you obviously didnt take the time to set it up properly. keep the refresh rate low kids! keep it on native resolution! pump the digital colouration and use DVI or you are an idiot!

Nice to see all those restrictions which are totally unnecessary when you're using a CRT. You'll just have to admit that CRT > LCD when it comes to gaming. I mean the best LCD can do in response time is 8 times ours and that's on a peak, generally it's around 16-20 times ours.

Because CRTs cause that and LCDs don't? What makes you think that?

There's an Anandtech buyers guide for mid-range gaming, but the budget is $1,500.

That's rediculious, you can build a great computer for half of that.

That's exactly what the author said, but mentioned it wouldn't be good for serious gaming or professional work. Anyway, I don't know much about US prices.
There's a 7800GT OC'ed that's part of the make-up however, that's the most expensive part ($379). Next is an 8ms 19" LCD screen ($301).

Goddamn you people and your huge local market. I get to buy 7800GTs for over 400-500 Euro (400E x 1.2 = 480$)
