Well so I got me a fucking new A64 3000+ Venice and MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum motherboard and I can do nothing but kick myself in the nuts for doing this shit.

My AMD 64 3000+ consistently produced 100+ pts less in 3dmark05 than my P4 3Ghz @ stock. For 3dmark03 I got about 200 pts less in every benchmark, however I ran it. Next to that, A64 multi-tasking is absolute crap. With the amount of stuff that is running in my background and the amount of shit I open in 1 go, A64 just couldn't keep up. Felt like a fucking sticky processor to me. Add to that installations on A64 takes ages because AMD still can't extract worth shit. I am stumped. All I can say is that I installed Dungeon Siege 2 and Fable on my PC (from HDD to HDD meaning no DVD Drive issues here), and A64 was slow as fuck. I then gave the fucker 1 GB folder with about 5000 files in it, to compress and extract. Needless to say my P4 beat it hands down and then some.

I would gladly post screenshots and stuff but I just couldn't do that anymore, because my MSI mobo thought it would be a wise idea to kill itself after the humiliation this A64/MSI combo came out to be. Have you ever burnt a motherboard by installing a sound card in soft-off mode? If not, welcome to the MSI club, hell yeah bitches, mobo is fried. I seriously doubt even if I would get any warranty on it. 73 bucks wasted for a downgrade, add to that, 90 bucks wasted for an MSI motherboard and I am down over 165 bucks and without a computer.

Add more to it, the fucking processor wouldn't overclock worth shit. Maybe it was my PSU, I am going to try it on my friend's motherboard and see if it goes any further. The processor couldn't even hit 240 FSB with 4xHTT and 9xMulti and ram at 3 3 3 8 DDR 400 Dual Channel. I was giving it fucking 1.5 volts, and still no dice. Wtf. Is this what a venice core is?

The max I ran it stable was at 2.15 Ghz, wow I feel so special I can kill a few kittens .

Note to self: AMD is piece of shit, don't buy again unless its X2.
Note to self 2: MSI is piece of shit, don't buy again EVAR!
Note to self 3: Curb your desire to burn money.
Note to self 4: I saw a blue screen after 7 years on my 2 pcs equipped with A64 processors and MSI motherboards, all I know is that this is absolute crap.
Note to self 5: Never listen to people who rave about their setups.

*sigh*. Fuck this shit.

Soft-off mode? Anyway, MSI is suck, always has been always will be. My processor doesn't overclock either, luckily it runs at 2.6GHz stock.

Soft-off mode is when the pc is physically off but the main a/c power (coming from the switch on the wall), is on and psu power button is on, so a light on mobo is on or something. Never had a problem with any other motherboards, this is my first fried mobo. Do I get a cookie or what?

I told you so.

Btw, I have my 3500+ Venice running at 245*10.5 with my memory (2x1024 OCZ plat) running at 2-2-2-5 1T. I'd say your overclocking issues are definitely related to the board.

Maybe the board was about to crap out and therefore performed like shit?

Oh ok, thats not a good idea, all the ports and ram dimms are still powered when its like that. Thats the reason the light is there. I imagine that if you don't put the card straight in perfectly you could get arcing or something and fry either the mobo or expansion card, I reckon you've just been lucky so far.

That isn't what soft-off means at all.

Soft-off is being able to turn off the machine simply by pressing the power button, but still having the OS go through the proper shutdown procedure. Doing this is performing a "soft-off". A hard-off (different than a hard-on), on the other hand, is performed by typically pressing and holding the power button for 4 seconds, which causes an immediate cutting of power, whether or not the OS likes it. There is no such thing as a "soft-off mode".

The light on the motherboard is simply a way of showing you that there is power supplied to the system. There is always power running through the system, albeit at minimal amperage. If there wasn't any power, the power button would be useless.

When machine is not running, but still connected to a power source, we in the tech industry refer to this as being "turned off". When the machine is not connected to any power source, the industry term is "unplugged".

Ok thanks kingspeedy for clearing the shit up. Anyways, when I say its soft off, it means that the shit was off (by using shutdown from start menu in windows fucking xp). What MrBored said about the arch and causing frying, is what I suppose just happened. It never happened to me in the 30 video cards I switched on my intel mobo this year. It also never happened to me in the countless times I reset CMOS on my intel mobos (both gigabyte and intel) and installation of modems, sound cards and/or lan cards. So I blame MSI.

And Chimera, the board performed good with my friend's 3500+ and clocked it to 2.52 GHz. I got it from a friend and it was fine. It crapped out because of what MrBored said. Apart from that, I really have no idea what happened. I just feel so owned. I should've listened to the many fucks who told me not to get AMD. Damn  So mad with myself.

First off, it's your own fault for not unplugging the bitch while you were working on it. That's rule #1 in the PC-repair world. Second, check into the power supply. If there's a PC-repair shop anywhere nearby, bring the PSU by and have them run it through their tester (any reputable shop will have one). They might, but shouldn't, charge you for the service.

Dude, my PSU is running fine on my intel. Board is fucked for good. All other components are running dandy.

The motherfuckin cunt of a board is fucked for good. They saw the fried shit and wouldn't accept it for warranty. I am getting some fucker to remove the fried chip and install a similar chip so that its not noticeable and the fucks replace the shiz. If that happens, I will hopefully get a new mobo. Wish me luck bitches!
