Don't know how reliable this is.

hmm... interesting. Can't remember the last time I visited techPowerUp but once I see anandtech do something along these lines, I'll believe it. Lets hope the marks are right cause they've had plenty of time to make the new series. Goes without saying but, those damn drivers had better shape up for the next release. The fact that they say the HDR and post-processing shit is radeon only seems kinda far fetched. I know I can turn PS 3.0 with HDR and 6xAA on in SC:CT and it looks pretty damn post-processed to me. Am I missing something or does the 7800 series not support it?

*ed: I like how they put the Intel 915G in there. HA!

I certainly hope you understand that that isn't a review, it's just basically an advertisement. There was a leaked review by a site outside the bounds of ATI's NDA, and from what I recall, things weren't looking too good for ATI.

One part of me hopes you and that review are correct. A 7800GTX should be a bit cheaper by christmas and that would make the decision a lot easier. On the other hand I want a new card to come out and destroy all, so that would be depressing. Guess we will know for sure tomorrow.

Ok. Some one get me a tissue. No, a bucket!

Soon, getting a AMD64 3700+, DFI Lanparty system (CPU upgrade only). Running low on cash for a graphic card, so would settle in for a mid end pcie card. So, would need a tissue instead of a bucket then, better than before is good :)

get an x2 instead of the 3700

no_nonsense4857

My logic is that DFI coupled with the 3700 can be over clocked and I could touch the performance of a 4000+ ( corsair's new 2Gb dual channel kit which would cost me $325, coupled with thermaltake's bigtyphoon ).

Now, for the same budget, no x2 would come close to that. I guess its like settling in for a system which you would'nt call a 'performance' system but you would'nt call it a "value for money" system either. Just tryin to get the best of both the worlds.

Getting back to what this thread was about :)

Just was going through the review by tomshardware, now any body would say that its biased, dont you think?

Wipe those tears away with the 9800Pro I have sitting around, collecting dust :p

If you want value for money, then why are you spending $200 on a motherboard? Get the x2-3800, which goes for $350, and enjoy the multi-core glory. A buddy at work brought in his new X2 system, and he had World of Warcraft running in the forground, with XP installing on a VirtualPC instance in the background without so much as a hiccup. And scrap that corsair memory. OCZ has a 2GB kit of DDR-400 (2-3-2-5) that can be had for under $250.

Hey! me not going in for SLi at all (many would say this is a sane decision right? :) )

So, the DFI Lan Party UT NForce4 Ultra-D costs me just $129 n I save 80 :D

Athlon 64 3700+ costs ~$290
Athlon x2 3800+ costs ~$380.
Thats a ~$100 difference.

If I decide to go for a non DFI mother board, I guess I would save a max of ~$20 right. Other choices being ASUS and ???? (I dont like MSIs).

Choose to go in for Corsair, cos OCZ seems to have some compatibility issues with DFi mobos. N 2-3-2-6-T1 at ~437 MHz is something not heard of till now for 1 Gb modules.

Also, since I plan to install SAP R/3, I am buying two Maxtors DimondMax 250 Gb HDDs (16Mb Cache).

I have a $800 budget for the CPU (mobo, processor, ram, hdd, powersupply, and the thermal take big typhoon)

There are some amazing reviews of the Athlons and its over clocking capabilities on 'anandtech.com'.
I follow this site regularly for news but seems to me that I've somehow over looked these good reviews (just a few months back, never thought of upgrading, so a x2 or a amd64 review never interesed me).
But right now, a real eye opener these reviews are.
