BiA EiB Review Comments (http://www.actiontrip.com/rei/comments.phtml?cat=reviews&link=brothersinarmsearnedinblood)

If that really is a Gearbox Developer, that guy has the right to be pissed. Rofl. And I always thought AT was in good terms with Ubisoft. Second to that there is this ConcernedReader guy trying to play out a drama and doesn't know that I posted that BiA sucked ass and this one sucks donkey cock. Ha! Fuckin' A!

Let's see what 2lions has to say about this. P.S. I am banned from main page, hot damn!

Anyways, before 2lions edits out the main site and for all the lazy fucks who wouldn't follow a link, here are a few posts:

Folks,

Having worked on products like WWII Online and Ensemble's "Age of" series it's safe to say I have worked on blockbusters and dogs. However I have never read a game review so completely off topic as the review I read regarding "Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood".

Now I have no problem with the reviewer not liking a game. What is disturbing is the reviewer did not appear to even play the game or discuss any of the content or new features of the game. While EiB is indeed "more of the same" as Hill 30 the reviewer would be in sorry shape reviewing any FPS game of the past 10 years if that is his only criteria. He makes no mention of any changes in the AI (they are legion) and no mention of the other game modes such as Skirmish (new) and multiplayer (old). The lack of content review is jarring and absurd. Were a person looking at this review they would know nothing of the product and know that the reviewer only disliked the marketing of the publisher. If your readers are only interested in knowing that then you’ve hit your target. If they actually look for information on a game then you’re not providing it.

As a developer I would be keen to hear some genuine criticism on what went wrong and what went right. His emotional ranting regarding the state of the industry does little to highlight any of the weak points in the product so they may, potentially, be addressed. Any review with this line it it "Many people may not approve of this review. Many will accuse me of not doing my job, which is to focus more on the actual content and less on the issues I have with this industry and Ubisoft's marketing tactics in particular “ should at least be read for content by the editorial staff. I certainly don’t hope you pay this individual because I believe you’ve been

A reviewer giving the game the same score with solid commentary can be viewed here:

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=61214

All the hates and loves are perfectly on point; they actually deal with the game. Using this information to work with we can understand the how’s and why’s of what the reviewer liked or did not like. The reviewer for Action Trip appears to dislike Ubisoft and therefore EiB. I even sympathize with some of his points; however I don't find his article a "review" at all.

Consider this note a review of your reviewer. I hope I took the time to point out the items I found distasteful. I would have pointed out the parts I found useful, were there any, and given a fair scoring based on that. I have even provided a solid example of a review that was below what I would like to see in terms of score but very useful for evaluating our game.

In the end I don’t expect much except for you to lump me in the “disgruntled developer” bin. It’s unfortunate if you do that since I am attempting to tell you what the game playing public would like to read reviews for: a breakdown of the games attributes and what the reviewer thought of them.

Michael Weber
Test Manager
Gearbox Software

You know I totally agree with what Michael Weber of Gearbox Software on what he said about Actiontrip review of "Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood". The Actiontrip reviewer is doing the gaming industry a complete disservice and injustice by not taking the time to properly review a game. Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood is one of the best World War II PC games out there. How can the Actiontrip reviewer give such a bad review to such a great game and also express so much anger. What does that solve? The "Skirmish Mode" alone is revolutionary in PC gaming. The Actiontrip reviewer didn't even bother to mention the Skirmish Mode. How sad to leave out such a great part to the game. I think that Actiontrip owes an apology to Gearbox Software for such a bad review to a great PC game. Also when comparing this game to Call Of Duty 2, Call Of Duty 2 is a completely different game. This game is non-linear. Call Of Duty 2 demo is linear. You can control AI teammates and tanks in this game. You can't control AI teammates or tanks in Call Of Duty 2 demo. In Skirmish Mode, you can play the role of Amercian or German soldiers. You can't do that Call Of Duty 2. Call Of Duty 2 has no Skirmish Mode. Please, Actiontrip, have your reviewers do better jobs on reviewing PC games.

stetor (Potential 2nd Gearbox Developer)

I agree as well. It is a shame that this Uros "2Lions" Jojic person can get away with having such a hateful piece published on a once ( until this morning for me ) respected game site. I have been reading Action Trip for a long time and I am ashamed to see that they would allow such a thing to be posted ( And then link to it from their front page! ). What was said in this review was full of spite and just down right hateful. I was disgusted to read this. What bothers me most is that I am a huge fan of the Brothers In Arms games and I am personally really pleased with the SEQUEL. I take personal insult to your bashing of the franchise and its fans ( as you are basically insulting the greater half of your readers who are pleased with the games [ and are not so inclined to form a membership just to say foul words such as NiteX up there^ to games we don't particularly care for] ).

And 2Lions, it's nice to see you're allowed to edit peoples posts. Is this the way you handle people who disagree with your point of view? You are warning someone about their language and deleting their post, but just above that post I don't see where you've said anything ( or censored ) the person who seemingly agreed with your narrowminded perspective. The person (NiteX) said: "Ok now this game sucks fucking ass. You should have given it a 3/100. B&W2 is 10 times more fun than this shit of a FPS." I find it hard to believe that WhoGivesARatsAss could have said any words more offensive than that ( or your steaming review for that matter ). I'm guessing that he had something to say about you or your article, and you aren't man enough to leave it. That speaks volumes about you and your work ( and the people that allow the article to stay live). Speaking of shameless marketing antics: How about Action Trip ( who let's face it, hasn't really made a wonderful name for itself around the gaming community, or had much site traffic lately [ You have adds for SunRocket on your site! This is the best advertising you can get?] ) stooping so low as to post a terrible, hasteful and controversial article just to stimulate interest in the site. That's low. Very low.

As a fan who faithfully read your (Action Trip) reviews in the past I am completely disgusted by your allowance of such a terrible content. Of course I'm sure 2Lions will rip my post down and throw in a few last words about how this is my last warning, etc. Well if so, then good riddance to you and Action Trip.

ConcernedReader (can you think of a gay-er name?)

I guess he didn't read some of the other reviews we have. Tons of them don't even deal with the game, or they do but not in any type of way the developers are used to seeing. I agree with 2Lions though about the "sequel" and "expansion pack" problem nowadays int he industry.

rofl! what did you say to get that kind of response??

Well we all know that the game deserves a 78-ish rating and even the developer agreed on it, but I would rather have had a separate offbeat/column which talks about Brothers In Arms and add value to it by considering other such games. In a review, for a serious reader, unlike say "ME", I would prefer more information about the game itself than constant rant about industry. It maybe related but I came to the site for a review not pot shots at a game that is conforming to norms of industry (which is not necessarily a good thing).

Added to that, the recent 3 in a row reviews of Black & White 2, Fifa 06 and now Brothers In Arms were a bit over the top. Considering all 3 reviews didn't talk much about the game anyways. Now a reader like me, who is usually in the "WhoGivesARatsAss" state wouldn't bother with this crap at all, but I presume actiontrip also has a readerbase (albiet smaller than other giants) that it needs to do a service to.

I know the intentions in the reviews were spot on, but rather than totally going off topic in 3 reviews in a row, it would've been better to have a column stating industry's examples and slamming on these games in it.

I said, "Brothers in arms sucked cow dung and this game sucks donkey nuts" or something to that effect atleast. Its considered obscene on a site which has an Editor In Cheif and his junior reviewer using explicit language on the main page.

I think he's just sick of the industry. His Mornin' posts complain about it fairly often. My take on it is that he doesn't care too much anymore.

he's getting old. old and jaded and cynical, which he fucking should be, since he's old. which makes things 100x more interesting.

We've all played games before and we all know what to expect, so if a new game comes along and doesn't offer anything worth mentioning above the rest then an off topic review is expected. The fact that the review is off topic is clear indication of the game sucking the big one.

However I have never read a game review so completely off topic as the review I read regarding "Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood".

Hahahah, he has obvioulsy never read the Fifa reviews. Fuck these game developers and their shit games. I wish more reviewers had the balls to trash talk products and go off topic, maybe it would help change the industry. Jeremy Clarkson has been doing it with cars for years (Top Gear) to the point that certain car companies (eg: Rover) won't give them cars to road test.

Too bad Jeremy Clarkson turned into an arrogant fat sob who thinks he's the shit when it comes to judging cars. I personally blame his sorry ass for turning Top Gear into a half hour bitchfest.

He just has the extremes, he either completely hates the car or completely loves it. Who cares if he's an arrogant fat sob, its still damn entertaining.

Well I think it gets pretty boring after a while. Oh here we go again, Jeremy hates the car and is now completely gonna burn it to the ground for no particular reason other than the fact it's not a ferrari, lamborghini or a porsche. And even those brands aren't safe for that fat annoying leprecaun. I mean if I would've gotten a dollar for every time that prick said: "The car is fine, it's just that...........well, it's a [Insert non-supercar brand name here]" I would've been able to buy just about every car he has ever driven in.

I hear that! Screw Top Gear guys, you should check out 5th Gear - every episode comes with a new high-speed crash simulation... not to mention clever antics, good reviews and well... people who can actually drive

Yup 5th Gear rocks. The guy with the weird voice is fantastic. Now that's a real car enthusiast. I've seen him almost wet himself of pure joy and excitement when he was pushing a McLaren F1 streetcar to the limit. "Let's give it some stick." And he did, like no other.
