Help, I have only 2 USB ports on my aging puter, problem is now they don't seem to recognize any hardware I connect anymore, mainly my Intuos3, usb mouse and Logitech Dual Action Gamepad. I dunno what happened, I was listening to some music one day when the pointer just stopped responding... Now the Wacom tablet's led light up as soon as I turn my computer on compared to before where it lights just in time with the keyboard led when you hear the boot beep sound. Help! What could be wrong? I uninstalled all drievrs and stuff but something tells me its hardware related. Could my USB ports be defective? My uncle says disconnecting hardware from the port while the computer is running may damage it. Is this true? Coz I've been doing that for years.. Sorry for the long post. Now Im browsing with just my keyboard! Ugh.

By chance, are you using Windows 2000?

No, I have XP. Why?

USB is hot-pluggable so taking devices out of the USB port won't hurt the system at all. It CAN corrupt your data though if you didn't use the "Remove Hardware Safely" option.
On the matter at hand: I have no idea. May want to try a full re-install. Maybe check your BIOS if you didn't swtich anything off?

I suppose this stuff is the reason they tell us to use system restore.

Try uninstalling the USB controller in the Device Manager, rebooting, and letting Windows pick it back up.

yeah, try reinstall the controller.
System restore is a crap and takes too much space

I wanna try the format thing, but there just something weird about the LEDs on my Hardware when I boot up. The tablet and mouse light up just in time with the boot sound but now it lights up just as soon as I preess the power on button. Something like static electricity I think...

If it's happening on bootup, then your problem is entirely hardware-related. Does the problem occur on both the front and rear ports, or just the front?
