So has anyone seen it? I'll be going tomorrow, what's the verdict?

A friend of mine said it was some good shit. I wanted to see it today, but my asian friend was being a bitch. I would have probably seen The Weatherman instead, anyways.

Most people think it's boring due to the lack of 'war', despite the movie's context. anti-war prop flop.

edit:
I probably won't watch it, because the previews made it seem like instead of confronting real war issues and politics, troops playing football in gasmasks, and having a shirtless Jake Gyllenhall(sp?) running around looking stupid in a crew cut were more important.

I saw it last night and it was pretty good, don't go in expecting to see a "war" movie though. It focuses on the lives of the soldiers themselves for the most part and the itch to fight that never really gets satisfied. It confronts some current issues in a subtle way imo, good stuff though. Worth it me thinks.

The thing I hate about hollywood american war movies is that they're too emo. They can't just make a movie about war and combat. They have to throw in the "human angle" and soldiers crying and thinking about their wives. Who gives a shit about his wife? I want to see some fucking combat. I don't want shaky-cam bullshit with an orchestra playing in the background. And like, a slow motion scene with soldiers waving the flag around and crying. I want a war movie with a metal soundtrack, and like, you know, BAM BAM "DIE DIE MOTHERFUCKER! AHHG! I'M GOING TO FUCKING RAPE YOU TO DEATH AAAGGHH!"

Because that would be one of those shit action movies with absolutely no character development and depth.

Exactly; I hate those movies.

Movies with depth are better because you get more from them. But don't tell me there isn't a part of you that just wants to experience pointless, brutal, and fucking AWGHGHGHGHGH violence. Don't you sometimes just want to see huge explosions and people being burned alive by flamethrowers, men losing their limbs by stepping on mines, tanks mowing down infantry, and just plain crazy shit? Napalm being dropped on gooks, US soldiers getting sniped by allah-freaks in Iraq and screaming while blood shoots out their necks, or maybe a soldier just losing his shit and killing his entire squad with a grenade.

The only reason you'd totally dismiss this type of movie is because you feel intelligent when you claim you only like movies with a complex and significant meaning behind them.

Have you seen The Beast? Its about a russian tank crew that got seperated from their platoon after demolishing an Iraq village, shortly into the movie the commander of the tank kills their Iraq member and leaves 'the smart guy' to die strapped to a rock in the desert with a grenade under his head, of course the Iraq's save the guy he joins them and teaches them how to use an RPG against the tank. Short simple and fucking awesome film.

No, I dismiss it because the trend is that a movie with that idea is always horribly done. Then again, I'd still need some sort of plotline. I don't think I could watch 2 hours of pointles killing... I'd probably get bored.

The Beast is actually set in Afghanistan for when the russians were owning it up there. I haven't seen it but it seems like it's worth the $9.

Of course you need a plot, otherwise just go to ogrish. Like Savior for example, had a lot of potential. They blew up his wife and kid, he wants revenge. But instead of making the movie about the pregnant girl and him, why not make him go on a bloody revenge-crusade type thing? And he doesn't find his humanity or whatever the hell you want to call it, he just ends up dead in a really badass fight. And for the mandatory sex scene you could have him go up to valhalla and fuck some babe. That would have made it a much more exciting movie.

I finally saw this shit, damn it's so not what I expected.. anyway it's a good flick but for the diehard action junkies(BlackHawkDown), I would recommend making it a matinee.. it's not even going into my dvd bundle.

I haven't gotten around to seeing it, and it doesn't look like I will until next payday, most of this check went up mine and my god damn friends noses tonight. My dad went and saw it, he was expecting more of an action movie but said it ended up being really god damn good, but he said I probably wouldn't get quite as much out of it as I haven't been in the military at all, unlike his 300,000 years in it. Wooo, talking too damn much, yay for cola.

I actually really want to see this movie, I heard (from a guy) that it sucked because there wasn't any killing in it. But I'm not really interested in the killing parts, I like it because the plot and trailor look good.

Sadly, I heard this from two horny bastards hanging around with ditsy chicks; who knows if they were even watching the movie.

Got 20 credit hours (6 classes) this semester and a new job which is like 20-30 hours a week. Loss of time. But I do really want to see that movie pretty badly. If it sucks then it just does, and I'll get over it. But it looks really good.

P.S.- Yeah Digital don't trust guys that go to movies with girls, they 90% of the time never end up watching the movie.

Welcome to teh suck

If you want to see any action/explosions this is not the movie. If you want to feel angry and depresed and watch a well made but not very exciting movie then go see it.
