IM running windows xp pro and my fuckin shit is fucking up...ha

well... whenever i try to open anything or just even internet explorer after the computer has sat for a while or even every once in a while the pc like locks up for like 15 seconds and then becomes unusable until it decides to load the program fully...like i'll double click internet explorer, wait 15 seconds but my hard drive blinks very faintly not like its loading just like its being gay blinks every second about and then after about 10-15 seconds it'll just load after not being able to click anything but i can move my mouse...thats all i can do till my pc loads internet explorer... i can tell when it tries to load it when my hard drive light blinks like it should blink to load something...i even tried after freshly restarting and it still happens...this usually happens after it sets like an hour and then i go back to my pc after a fresh restart ..

could this be the case of a virus or just task manager or whatever program could run in the background the only thing i really have running in bckground is 3com 10/100 diagnostic or whatever, norton antivirus 2003, itouch for my keyboard logitech, nforce 2 sound options and windvd win cinema manager when this happens as these programs load on startup...if you need more info then i'll explain better just pissed off now that i got great system specs and know alot but just cant figure out what could be the problem ahhhhh! FUCK SHIT FUCK!

geeeee.......!!!! you have too many background tasks! but they are probably not the cause of your problems though.

If youre machine does that after recovering from a stand by, why not disable the stand by then? just turn off your monitor and walk away, then everything is there!

It might have something to do with your memory, too. IF you have 128 or only slightly above, you might want more because XP's minumum is 128, and you always want more than that...

512 isn't enough, you should have AT LEAST a gig. Maybe 3.

Sounds like Spyware to me... download Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoft.de), and run it through - I recomend using the highest scan settings, and removing everything it comes up with.

On the RAM issue, a gig or more is not strictly necesary... the machine i`m on now has XP Pro upgraded from 98, running on an 800 MHz Celeron and 256 SDRAM, and we have no problems with speed what so ever.
According to the XP Pro box, the minimum required is 64, 128 is recomended... so, basically, with 512 DDR you should be fine, depending on the reliability of the brand.

Not always the best solution - formatting and reinstalling everything can be a long and tedious process... generally better to do what else you can first. Although formatting is sometimes necesary, I usually recomend not formatting unless you need to, or if it`s been a fair while (over 12 months) since the last format. :)

Actually, formatting is fun. I recommend everyonf format their drive whenever there is a problem, such as a game start to crash...

Joking!:D :D :D

Formatting your harddrive means you have to back up many important files, and although it does solve many problems, it doesn't allow any mistakes... I would say try not to get rid of all your stuff as your first solution...

I agree entirely - especially since with something like this, formatting and restoring everything can often restore the problem aswell, making it a better option to format without backing up... which should only *EVER* be a last resort.

u see, i don't know why people find it so hard to format. my OS is as customized as any. i have a totally seperate drive to save stuff, and i have a downloads folder in which i put all the programs that are not on cd. i copy the documents and settings folder (all customizations are therefore retained), and format and reinstall. then go through my downloads folder, and reinstall down the line of exe's. it's tedious, yes. but then again, i must just be used to it

The problem with it is how long it takes - save time if you can, go the long way only if you realy need to. :)

This is all about time management. Here I want to share a funny story of mine, and it was real.

I once decided to format my second harddrive, and I thought: "This is gonna take quite a while to format this 40GB stuff. I'm going to do some drawings in the art building, eat some food, pimp some girls.... or not, but I will just let computer take care of itself..."

So, I inserted the Start-up Disk, typed format e: and I left.

It was like 5 hours later, I got back to the room, and I see the screen says:

"Warning! All data on this drive will be lost. Proceed (Y/N)?"

I felt really, really dumb...

lol, what i REALLY hate is when that sorta thing happens to me in a windows installation. like, u gotta SIT there for an hour :(

fortunately, i recently learned the power of the unattended installation. has been a breeze ever since.

I have a T.V. in my room, so when i have to format and re-install i just sit down a watch T.V. Every now and then i just look over to the computer to see if there are any boxes i have to click through.

What's cool is when you work at a computer store and people bring in thier machines to get a new os all the time, you just pop in the upgrade disks all at a time, hit enter a few times, and have your lunch break. It's great.

format fixes everything, I would recommend this..but not now
I've built my machine so xp runs on its own hdd, and the games and etc on the larger one. The smaller one is faster, and larger is about as fast...
the point here is, you need to rid of all the CRAP on your system, like using adaware, defragging...and removing any games you dont use often. update drivers.
try that and see how it goes.

Yeah, an OS is like sex. It can be safe, and not be quite as good, or it can be dangerous and be much better. :D

XP pro is the most stable windoze there is. I've been running it a month without rebooting and it's fine. I had to shut down my pc to install ram, hd, and power supply but that's it.

If that ain't stable, I don't know what is.
