I'm just wondering. I'm switching from a no reed (flute) to a double-reed (bassoon), and it's not hard as though people said, it's just very different. Practiced a bit last night and I can't seem to keep pitch.
Meh...

Can't help ya.... I'm into 'strings'... Guitar, mandolin, piano, and autoharp.
I think it would be fun to learn how to play a flute or something someday.

Man, that sucks. Hoping someone knew a magical "insta-bassoon" trick. Blast!
And just so yas know: Flute players are hott. And I'm the only guy in the section. And all but one are available... Shwing?
I play guitar. That is, "play" is a relative term...

Want to learn drums but I'm slow at learning instruments. I am murderously jealous of the people we have that can pick up a fucking collie and play music!
I'd kill them and steal their powers a la Highlander, but the whole legal thing is... I just don't want to deal with it!

Keeping the pitch on a bassoon is all about breath. And to some extent, embouchure. But as a rule of thumb, the breath is used for intonation and the lips should only support the reed to vibrate as freely as possible.
I am fully aware, by writing the words "lips" and "vibrate", that all of the ATrips sickos will comment this in a unabashed sexuall explicit way but that goes with the territory. :D
If your problems with intonation persists, try out an alternate fingering. In fact, playing bassoon is more about alternate fingering than every other woodwind instrument I know of.
Try out this link for more fingerings: Fingerings (http://www.wfg.woodwind.org/)
Happy playing!

I've got the fingerings, it's the embouchure. I'm getting the hang of it so I get that it's more a control issue, but each note seems to have it's own different one, thus making it a bit tough to play something without going, and I quote, "WRAOYOUCFTHPTPTPT!"
EDIT: Welcome to the forums BTW! And thanks for the advice.

OK! I know that sound. :D LOL! Breath control is essential but a good reed and a bassoon in good shape helps alot. :)

Thanks alot. And you are welcome! :D

That's one thing is that my reed is the one it came with (it's a school) and the only good point to it is that it was most likely used by a goil in previousness.
Damn Saied's and their expensive reeds! Alas...

Bassoon? I wasn't aware people played that instrument, let alone two. Nah, just kidding. I just find the fact that you made a thread about it kinda strange, and that a complete newbie (no offense) would come to a gaming forum to post about it really strange.
I play guitar so I can pretend to be cool. Or because it's fun...
