Growing up in the 70's was interesting because before then, women's roles in the movies and on t.v. were usually based on them being rescued by the he-man hero. The Avenger's (late 1960's -1970's) was like one of the first times I really remember seeing a woman kick a bad-guy in the head....way to go Ms. Peel!
When Alien came out in 1979, everyone was talking about how 'finally' a woman got to be the hero, when Ripley duked it out with that bad-ass alien.
Since then, I've seen a lot of really good rolls for women, most of them in Sci-Fi series/movies. I like how the characters are...brainy, witty, tough, and of course sexy without being looked up on as 'dikes'....the new Starbuck excluded...lol. ;)
Anyway, who's your favorite 'tough women' in film/t.v. series... ? There's a lot to chose from...the Star Trek shows alone had a lot of good women on them, then there's shows like Xena, or the Terminator's target, Sarah Conner,
My top 3 favorites:
1. Jadzia Dax - Deep Space 9.... Ended up married to Worf...but they killed off her charactor towards the end of the series. : (
2. Ivanova - Babylon 5's tough no-nonsense 2nd in Command.
3. Seven of Nine - The Borg/Human taken in by the Voyager crew, super smart...and had the crewmen scared shitless....lol...
