View Full Version : Sci-Fi Women...

Growing up in the 70's was interesting because before then, women's roles in the movies and on t.v. were usually based on them being rescued by the he-man hero. The Avenger's (late 1960's -1970's) was like one of the first times I really remember seeing a woman kick a bad-guy in the head....way to go Ms. Peel!

When Alien came out in 1979, everyone was talking about how 'finally' a woman got to be the hero, when Ripley duked it out with that bad-ass alien.

Since then, I've seen a lot of really good rolls for women, most of them in Sci-Fi series/movies. I like how the characters are...brainy, witty, tough, and of course sexy without being looked up on as 'dikes'....the new Starbuck excluded...lol. ;)

Anyway, who's your favorite 'tough women' in film/t.v. series... ? There's a lot to chose from...the Star Trek shows alone had a lot of good women on them, then there's shows like Xena, or the Terminator's target, Sarah Conner,

My top 3 favorites:

1. Jadzia Dax - Deep Space 9.... Ended up married to Worf...but they killed off her charactor towards the end of the series. : (
2. Ivanova - Babylon 5's tough no-nonsense 2nd in Command.
3. Seven of Nine - The Borg/Human taken in by the Voyager crew, super smart...and had the crewmen scared shitless....lol...

Xena .. warrior princess... but only in the older episodes ... the newer ones were weird.

A lot of the Greek god women kicked ass cause they get back at the men in wonderfully ironic ways ... like Zeus' wife Hera, now that's a smart chick.

Tough defines getting the shit kicked out of you, over and over again.. Xena takes the cake.

I would say Maj Carter but she doesn't get the shit kicked out her, she's constantly in tough shitty situations but that's about it. :)

Most of the charactors out there that have women able to take care of theirselves are in the sci-fi genre....but feel free to post a favorite from other genres too.

I'm just glad that it's more common nowdays to portray women as something other than helpless in the face of danger.

Kaylie from Firefly definitely ranks up there. Something about geeky tech girls, even if she is a mech.
Sikozu was pretty hot too and, activating the wayback machine (To MILF-country for some folks here), growing up I always had the hots for Wilma Deering from the '70s-ish Buck Rogers. Loved her eyes.
