Just got a new system and a eVGA 7800 GT.

I observe that all is fine when the settings are normal. But when I crank up the settings to high (especially the water part) everything turns to dark blue and it looks worser than the settings in normal mode.

Will post a screenshot asap. But just before that I wanted to know if there are some settings to be taken care of.

FEAR plays fine and gives an avg of 45fps in the highest setting available. So, Far Cry should play smoothly given that its a better game when it comes to using system resources.

One thing I noted that when I choose the option to let the game find the optimal default, it turns every thing to low (meaning it does not recognize that I have a 7800GT  )

I exprienced the same prolem, too. Try patching the game. That did it for me.

It was funny, I download the 1.33 patch and try to install it............... it asks for the 1.32 patch and when I try to download and install the 1.32 patch, its asking for the 1.31 patch

So, I've downloaded all the three patches totalling to some 104 MB. How do I go about installing the patch??

Do I work my way through the 1.31 all the way upto 1.33 or what?

That would seem like the most rational thing to do

If it asks for 1.31, that means the game is 1.30. I think you just need to update it 1.31, and then to 1.33 without updating to 1.32, since 1.33 patch is good for both 1.31 and 1.32.

The 1.31 installation never gets beyond this

Nothing happens when you click on next. I tried pasting it into the bin folder thinkin that it needs to be in the folder with the farcry.exe file, but of no avail.

Any comments? Help? I just want to see the water the way its suppossed to be :o

Got the workaround for that.

Was on the ubisoft forums.....

FYI

Add a shortcut of the patch to the desktop.
RightClick, go to the target and at the end of whats there "C:\blablabla" give a space and type in '-a'
The rest is as usual. Note that the patch will not bug you by asking for the previous patches and so you will have to be careful and load 1.3, then 1.31 and 1.33.....
