Are there other gamers worried about Starforce on their gaming rig? I know I have spent days reading about this copy protection and I for one think it causes more trouble than it is worth. Many users complain of damage to optical drives and crashes not to mention the level 0 access it gives could compromise security. Google up a search of Starforce and see the articles written by Cnet and others on this (malware in my opinion).
I have sold off any games that I owned that had it and will not purchase any that use it. I sold off Splinter Cell 3 without installing it.....I sold off Toca 2 and I did want Toca 3 but not anymore. Other past users dropped it...NwN had it at one time till it causes so many issues a patched removed it entirely. Oblivion was gonna use it till a outcry from the gamers made the producers deside on something different.
We know the need for copy protection but of all the games out there...the makers of Galactic Civalizations are very wise. They offered the game with NO protection. They made it so you need to register to get updates. We all know pc gamers must use the internet to get the complete games as all gamers are shipped before their time to meet deadlines. We also know that anyone who burns a copy of the game will want the fixed version bug free.
What we get with Starforce and similar techniques is the paying customer gets a crippled version. Why do gamers who own the cd use no cd cracks on games? Because by doing this we get better performace out of the game or get the game to actually work.
I have already written off Sony and will not purchase any Sony music anymore. I have written off Starforce and will not purchase any software using this meathod or any meathod as invasive. So what has dma and copy protection done...taken a gamer of over 20 years and now is making me avoid the products altogether. A hacker has it easy...he enjoys breaking the code and even if the game sucks he had his fun. I am a gamer...I want quality titles with less hassle period.
I have been banned from UBISOFT's forums for discussing this topic. They just think anyone who has issues with copy protection are pirates. The pirates have already broken the latest starforce and show how to use meathods to get past it for the gamer. I do not want to go this route and have to fuss with all the crap just to get games I have purchased to work as they should. Not to mention have 3rd party software that can mess with other software on my machine or cause hardware trouble and other issues.
I do not even have Nero or Alchohol 120 but I do own a dvd burner and guess what...I use it to back up my computer and to make some home dvds of the family. I have not used it to make illegal dvds or burn games with it..
