I use a GeForce 3 Ti200 64mb. Its a pretty decent card I'll keep it for a few more months and then probably pick up a new Geforce FX5800 when they get some aftermarket coolers that are more quiet.
I'm really not going to have a good enough system to run Deus Ex 2 and Doom III when they come out... :(

wow, sorry dude, i was joking. point is, matrox isn't exactly a gaming card; and you didn't look past the overstatements. i apologize. i've got an ATI, btw :)

I'd have to say that geforce and radeon are the leaders but radeon is taking over because of quality and price.

thats true i think many user of Radeon are in US while the rest of the world is mostly using Geforce , so us market is strong for radeon while the rest is mostly owned by Nvidia

you should upgrade outta the geforce 4 only if u wanna play doom 3 and newer games, like ur card should be fine as it is now, if ur gonna upgrade, then you should opt for the radeon 9700 pro or wait for the 9800 like i am, dont go from a 64 mb card thats the same model to a 128mb card, if ur talkin the ti4200 then why upgrade now, ur card is perfectly fine, although the mx series sux, i know...hope my input helps

I had ATI before Yian even knew what a computer was...and to this day, I still have the same reliable card.
But recently I've been lookin at a VIVO card (G3 ti4200 vivo) from NVIDIA, simply cuz the vivo cards offered by ati are the AIW models, and more expensive at that. I prolly will not buy this card, and I will just buy a 9700 and get a separate pci vivo card but thats once I have the money.

after having MANY cards (shit, MANY), i'd say nvidia cards are much more fun to play with from a tweaker's stand point. matrox still rules the realm of IQ.

sushi dont u have a 9700.. if u do how come u arent a converted nVidiot as yet!?!.. I have yet to see a matrox card in action but IQ on radeon cards simply kills nvidias

ATI's are good performers, but not that fun to mess with, u know? lotta features, but as far as settings go, not much u can do. even overclocking it kinda limited. especially drivers; i kinda like being able to try out beta's. systems seem to respond differently to each revision, so it's cool trying to find the best for you own system.
and converted nVidiot? you know u can get Ti4200's for 100$ retail nowadays? i dare ya to find me a better deal :)
besides, i'm not stating anything that isn't true. ATI wears the performance crown right now, and thank god i've got one.

Freak dat, I had an ATI before there was such a thing as 3-d graphics! When 3-d meant doom. Yo. My first 3-d card was Rendition. You know what I'm saying.

u can play all u want to with the radeon 9500/9600/9700/9800 series.. and their overclocks are bad ass.. consider the new 9600 pro that comes with stock speeds of 400/340 core/mem and was overclocked to 537/375 core/mem if that aint too cool for an overclock i wonder what will be.. (btw as u may know fx 5800 U runs at 500Mhz core clock and was only overclocked till 520Mhz) and ppl have used vmem vmods on their 9700 pros and even ran them at 9800 pro speeds.. 9700 pros do 350/330 easy with stock cooling but with additional cooling u can get 380/340 core/mem speeds.. i mean these are bad ass cards.. as for the tis the 4200s provide best overclocks but u have to find one w/ bga 3.3ns ram as the 4ns wont even hit 500 MHz (250mhz) so for a ti4600 speeds on a ti4200 u need to have an albatron card w/ bga ram and a ti4600 pcb.. i mean u have to look for so much w/ the tis in terms of overclocking and optimizing performance (more than stock) whereas most radeons need a bios flash or a softmod to work with them.. atleast thats my 10$s on the subject

you can play ANY game with 8xS AA and 8x AF with the FX 5800 ultra. so what's your point again?
here's the overclock from vr-zone:
http://www.vr-zone.com/reviews/NVIDIA/FX5800U/page11.htm
now.....remind me....why would u compare a 9700 pro to a Ti4*00? completely different generation of cards.
bad ass as these cards are.....you're bendin the truth a bit too far.
since when did Ti's need ANYTHING to get badass overclocks? my Ti4200 (regular PCB, TSOPII chips) got 310/620 stock (that's up from 250/500), with coolbits (built in overclocking).
i've got a 9700 myself....but lets try and remain objective
btw, i got my 9700np up to 325/360. i'm so happy :)
WhoGivesARatsAss
April 27th, 2003, 12:27 AM
btw vr-zone reviews suck (read the 9800 pro review and u will know).. just to tell u one thing.. i would consider reading other sites..
like hardocp.com
anandtech.com and xbitlabs.com
btw u are right in that overclocks can vary from card to card.. i agree completely with that.. but as for bending the truth i re read my post and the wording is not right.. the IQ on a fx is inferior to that of 9700 pro or 9800 pro for that matter.. comparing the tis to 9700 pro was legit as 9700 pro arrived in such a slot where nv30 was supposed to arrive but didnt hence, the it was compared to the tis.. now if u compare it to the fx 5800 U it is fine and even still the 9700 pro beats fx with AA and AF turned on.. though i know AF on fx seems better in some scenes but that is a minority.. also radeons have problems with AA at 45 degree angles.. and this is from hands on experience.. but overall in a rendered scene u are more likely to see jaggies in 8xS AA than in 6X or 8X AA of 9700 and 9800 pros respectively.. as for overclocking the ti 4200 my friend didnt go too far and many ppl didnt either coz of the 4ns ram on it.. that sure as hell is crappy ram u have to admit.. as for the ti 4600s using STOCK cooling even they dont overclock too well.. but thats beside the point.. the fx 5800 U also has fan hardware plus driver problems.. many ppl have burnt their fans because it didnt kick in at the right time.. that is a pain in the ass to start with.. running screen savers can cause the fan to not kick in and fry the chip.. there are threads abt this on rage3d and hardforum.com.. better search for that too.. so overall a better purchase today is a radeon card no doubt.. looking for low end under or around 100 bucks i would still say get a ti 4200 but if u have the dough 200 bucks and above there is a radeon card for every gamer.. personally i have only not been able to run two games on radeon
half life because i dont have the billion patches for it..
and max payne that kept on crashing to desktop which i think is a driver issue..
having made the transition from ti 4200 to radeon 9700 urslf i must say u should have seen the difference of image quality.. and fx series has inferior iq.. everyone admits that..

ok, tell u what; we'll use real world overclocks? what better than to use the average onion.
looking on the first few pages, i see MANY above the 550/1100 clocks. see for yourself.
next, here's my overclock using an albatron non-turbo (4ns):
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=28434
completely stock air cooling. u can search for other overclocks too.
i don't mean to disrepect u in any way, but hardocp tends to be pretty damn biased crap (THG is fuckin biased too, but hardocp manages to make it into the "crap" catagory).
tell me who admits the FX has inferior IQ, cause i don't.
the fan problem is a bug or whatever. what has that got to do with the performance and/or IQ? ATI is renowned for driver problems, so u can't take this "bug" as a sign of nvidia's inferior driver team.
oh, and run-ons......ouch :P
edit: HardOcp: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDIxLDU=
take a look at the IQ comparison down below, and tell me what you see.

what were u getting on stock clocks.. anyways.. about the IQ i really have to run and see an fx now.. u sure have got me thinking but still with AA and AF fx takes serious hits.. that is undisputed i hope.. but about the final IQ u are right to the extent that i should run and see it first.. will do when i get the time.. anyways.. as far as i have seen fx series is a major flop u have got to admit that in terms of sale, design, and to some extent quality also.. especially if a screen saver has the potential of burning a damn 400 dollar card.. also in terms of drivers i have found atis drivers as robust as nvidia.. recently even nvidia cards have had issues.. including fx.. tis are doing fine btw.. but we can only hope that nvidia and ati will keep on battling it out so that we can get kick ass products.. i hope we get the boost we were promised with cat 3.3s.. :D and also i never mean to disrespect ur opinion.. i had it too when i had an nvidia card.. i was a 100%nvidiot i must say.. now i am an ATidiot.. as they keep calling each other.. i dont put down any company.. just that gffx had such high expectations and to turn out to be a vacuum cleaner is not my idea of a 400 bucks card.. this is just healthy discussion hope we both learn something from this.. ;) have fun!

hey, i'm not gonna even talk about performance hits; nvidia can't seem to get it right (they use different methods of sampling AA, but AF? that's unexcusable). yes, the FX has been a major flop; and i think the reason is because it didn't ASTOUND enthusiasts and reviewers.
if you want a taste of the 3.3's, use the modfied 3.2's. a nice 10fps gain in some places.
ok, please DO get the geforce FX, and then tell EVERYONE in the fuckin enthusiast community that the fan is no louder than their fuckin 92mm deltas. not gonna single u out, but how many here have heard it? i have, and my smartfan 2 is louder.
my stock clocks were 250/500. was a 128mb card.
and......ATI fanboys are referred to as "fanATIcs".

Depends on who you ask. While some homo habilis played every 3d game that came along (even if it sucked), Homo Sapiens hunted and gathered the best games possible, regardless of features. (and still do to this day!)
