Anybody try this mod? I played it a while ago when i had my celery 500mhz with a GeForce 2 mx 32meg PCI, can you say 1FPS? I just ran it on my new rig, now i get 15-30FPS. And don't expect to get much more then that unless you have a Radeon 9700. GeForce 4 Ti's can probably get 40FPS, but thats probably it.

Tenebrae is a modification of the quake source that adds stencil shadows and per pixel lights to quake. Stencil shadows allow for realistic shadow effects on every object in the game world. Per pixel lighting allows you to have fine surface details correctly lit. These are essentially the same algorithms as used by the new Doom game.

Its really amazing to see the quake engine with all this stuff added. It also gives you an idea of how DOOM III will run, since it uses the same algorithms that DOOM III will use (Minus high res textures and higher poly models and maps).

Get it from:

It does the same things as DoomIII, but it doesn't use the same algorithms. I expect DoomIII to be much much faster.

I also tried it on my old comp(P3800mhz 512mbram gf2mx) and got 5-9fps. And I also tried Doom3 tech demo and got 10-15fps so i expect Doom3 to be much faster.

Tenebrae is being developed by amateurs where DoomIII is being developed by profesionals, infact I think Carmack is one of the best known programmers, so there's not doubt Doom3 will run much better.

Can you do better? Anyways, stuffing new stuff into an old engine isn't always best. And i didn't say DOOM III will run as fast as this mod, i said it will give you an idea. And it does, i'm sure DOOM III will run faster. But i don't think even people with the fastest computers will be getting above 100FPS unless they are looking at a wall. And if you want to make this mod look better, you could always install a high-res texture pack and a model pac with higher poly models. They have links on Tenebrae site.

Im still waiting for the quake3 version of the mod (To RAY16: high-res texture pack and a model pac with higher poly models=-50fps;) )

Dude, I think that rocks. If I had the money, I'd try to go to space. And I'd try to make a warp capable ship out of a ICBM.
