View Full Version : Question about car CD players

I bought my car about 11 years ago. It came with am/fm radio and a cassette player, and as the car still has pretty low milage on it, and is in perfect working order, I figure I might have it for another 10 years....so I've been thinking about putting in a CD player.
One thing I was wondering though. With a cassette, when ya turn off the car, and then later get back in and turn it on...the song you was listening to starts to play again.
My question is...with car CD players...do they reset themselves to the beginning of the CD each time you turn on the car...or does the CD resume on what ever song it was on when the car was turned off - or does it depend upon how nice of a deck it is?
Sometimes with my cassettes I'll leave the same cassette in for several days at a time...listening to maybe two or three songs a day...as my travel time to work and back and other driving about town means I'm not in the car that much. But..I don't think I would like it if the 1st track started up each time..and I would have to skip to the song I was on last before turning off the car.

Just about every modern car CD player will have a track memory in it.

Thanks... I have a little portable cd player and it resets itself everytime it's turned off...whether or not it's running from batteries or left plugged into the wall - so that's what got me to wondering about car CD players.

Unless you get a cd changer, then you have to turn it back on everytime you restart the car. That is theonly thing I don't like about my cd changer.

We have an '04 Ford Freestar with a single CD player, it remembers track and track position when it's off.

I guess getting a cd player has never been on my priority list just because I'm not in my car for long periods of time. Hell the car is now 11 years old and on a road-trip last week, I finally tripped the odometer over to 33,000 miles.
My back problems/surgery/healing has prevented me from going on long trips for more than 5 years now. But things in my back are finally healed up to a point where I can now go on 200+ mile trips and not hurt at the end of the journey.
That trip is what had me thinking about getting a cd player. Since travel is now possible for me, and I am making more money now than 11 years ago, I want to go shopping in the 'city'. I want to go over into Montana or into southern Idaho for a trip to a city like Idaho Falls or Boise.
A CD Player in the car would be nice to have, for these little road trips, also because my tapes are all getting old and worn out - some of them I've had since the 1980's : P
Also if anyone has any suggestions about a nice cd player brand that would be welcomed. I have a small car, as mentioned but the console area is designed for an add-on cd player there's a slot for it just under the radio/cassette player.
I'm sooo glad I didn't have to pay as much taxes as I thought I was going to have to...lol...this is allowing me to have my computer upgrade and a cd player. I also hit on a $2.00 trifecta ticket on my horseracing last weekend - won $209.00 on it. :)

agreed pioneer makes really good sounding head units for not alot of money. as of now i think every radio support MP3 cds, so burn your favorite mp3s on 1 disc and save a whole lotta cds. Just be careful though... make sure the radio fits in your car; you might need a fill-kit to hold the radio in the empty spot left by the stock radio. You'll probably need a special adaptor too for the back. and if you have an mp3 player, you might want the pioneer auxiliary adaptor. Radio is prolly cheap, but all those extras add up a whole lot... I actually have accumulated more in the extras than for the actual head unit itself.
