Because I can see a flood of sort threads if I don't do this, I did it.

Sure, it hasn't started yet, but whatever... news is news and I'll call it what I want.

To start it off: http://media.xbox360.ign.com/articles/706/706909/vids_1.html

Seriously, I'm glad I bought an Xbox 360.

*creamz*

Also, there's a Lost Planet and a Test Drive Unlimited demo up on marketplace. I'll post impressions if I ever find the time to play.

The people on the various forums I go to seem to really like the Lost Planet demo.

I might save up for a 360 after I upgrade my computer. No matter what happens, I won't get one until units with the 65nm CPU start shipping, with the ambient heat in my room I'll need all the help I can get if I want to be able to play without overheating.

Fuck racing games. *starts downloading it*

As for Lost Planet, the game is stellar-looking and has some relatively compelling gameplay, sadly the AI is terrible. I doubt I'd find the drive to purchase it if that wasn't changed. Also, there's a random fluxuation in difficulty, which is basically bad design. I'm a bit worried about that, though it shouldn't be too huge an issue if a save or checkpoint system is implimented. As it is, if you lose, you lose, and that's not fun.

Anyways, MASS EFFECT!!!!!

Massive Effect looks absolutely awesome. Seeing how Jade Empire is finally being ported to PC, I really hope that they would eventually do the same to this game as well. Or an keyboard & mouse adapter for Xbox 360.

And about the Superman game... the city buildings look pethatic. And the pedastrians's reaction to Superman's presence is weird... they behave more like the folks from Morrowind than the citizens of Metropolis. They should be sceaming "it's Superman!" instead of walking and doing their own things.

Has anyone checked out Gothic 3? Actiontrip has some screens up:

http://www.actiontrip.com/features/e32006gothic3.phtml

I saw one of the videos, in which the player casted a might meteor swarm spell that rains fire from the sky and killed a whole bunch of people. The graphics look rather impressive and has an Oblivion feel to it, though some areas are definitely not as impressive, such as grass and lighting. The blurry textures are definitely a big weakness. Don't know too much about its gameplay. anyone know more about it?

I doubt Gothic 3 will be revolutionary, but, expect it to be a solid single player RPG. Those Germans are unlikely to fuck it up. It's basically like the previous games, except, you know "NEW AND IMPROVED!"

Did anybody look at "You Are Empty"? It looks pretty interesting. A nice change from "RAWR! I KILL ALIENS IN DARK AND ABANDONED INDUSTRIAL COMPLEXES!"

Screenshots - http://actiontrip.com/features/e32006youareempty.phtml
Official Site (free of flash annoyances) - http://www.youareempty.com/main.php

You Are Empty offers players an alternative approach to the history of the late fifties of the XX century. Scene of action is the Soviet Union. Leading Soviet scientists start a big experiment that alter human physiology and mentality in order to create super humans capable of building bright future and communism all over the world. But something goes wrong…
As a result the whole city, where that experiment took place, goes on a rampage. The majority of citizens died, and those who survived turned into hideous mutants - the only inhabitants of deserted streets.

It should be out in Q3 '06.

Anyon have thoughts on Too Human?

It has been getting a lot of rap from the gaming community as of late, if only because the framerate in their demo was terrible (to the point of unmanageability) and the independent camera offered a confusing viewpoint with distracting movements that were far less cinematic and helpful as the head of developement within Silicon Knights, Denis Dyack, would have us believe. My personal opinion is that the demo was a rushed piece that is a showing from within their workshop, and not nearly a finished product. These are bugs that will be worked out. Not to mention the fact that Silicion Knights is pushing the storyline and the customizability of the game far more than the gameplay, which is all we saw. Though, that's not to imply that the gameplay is bad, just that it seems a bit straightforward and therefore a bit shallow.

Nevertheless, all will be understood in good time.

Now, 600 is WAY too fucking much, but you have to admit that it has some cool looking shit on it.

RAY16
May 14th, 2006, 12:26 AM
Realisticly, the PS3 is $700 minimum (tax and at least one game), but you'll most likely be surrounded by bundles that cost $800-$1,000 on launch.

This years E3 was all about Microsoft, Nintendo, PC games for me. The only thing on PS3 that even remotely interests me is MGS4, and I can live without it. That and the fact that I'm not going to shell out $700 or more (if I even had that much money to spend on a console in the first place) on a console makes me give the finger to the PS3.

Some good Revolution vids.

Metroid Prime 3: http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/3718 (The battle with Ridley at the end is awesome)

Mario Galaxy: http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/3714

Sonic Wildfire: http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/3722

The Virtual Console: http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/3724 (playing Mario 64...which I can do on my PC, but it's still neat)

Red Steel: http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/3721 (should be at least worth a rental.)

Zelda: Twiligh Princess: Vid 1 - http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/3719 Vid 2 - http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/3696

The 360 games that got me hot and bothered are:

Lost Planet
Gears of War
Raindbow Six: Vegas (not a "sim" type anymore, but I like the way it plays in the gameplay vids I saw..like a mix of Swat 4, the 360 version GRAW, and R6)
Splinter Cell: Double Agent (I'll most likely get the PC version, but still...)
Mass Effect
Stranglehold
Rayman Raving Rabbids (it was a CGI trailer, but evil rabbits kick ass)
MotoGP 2006
Alan Wake (no gameplay footage, but the story seems cool - also on PC)
Fable 2 (CGI trailer, but it'll probably be good...I enjoyed the first).

In addition to those, there are plenty of Xbox games I'd like to play that'll most likely make it- or have already been added to the backwards compatibility list.

For PC:

Prey
Dark Messiah
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Haze (from Free Radical, makers of Second Sight and the Timesplitters games, and made up in part by people that worked on Goldeneye 007 for N64)
Spore
Supreme Commander
Crysis (the gameplay footage I saw looked boring and generic, but I'll give it the benefit of a doubt)
Hitman: Blood Money
Neverwinter Nights 2
Flatout 2

And I probably left out a couple for each platform. Last years E3 was shit compared to this one in my opinion.

Racing games on consoles? Why is that even a question? They're 100% better in that realm. As for shooters, I prefer the lack of hacking so the controls are a legitimate sacrifice. Ignoring that, the controller does feel more comfortable than a mouse and keyboad. I always feel like I'm struggling to get comfortable with one, whereas with a controller I'm set the second I grab it.

tisl
May 14th, 2006, 01:33 PM
Well, on the PC you can use a steering wheel. I guess you can do that on the console too, but, meh, console steering wheels suck. The problem with shooters on consoles is that the analog stick is really crappy when compared to a mouse. It's not very precise.

Well, that and you can't do cool twitch actions like jump-180-kill-180-land. I don't mind though: they're still very fun as long as everyone is handicapped.

Assassin's Creed coming to Xbox 360

I completely understand what you mean. Ever since playing UT maddness back in the 8th grade, I've fallen in love with wasd and mouse. On the other hand, since I moved on to university and have had halo/2 sessions, after a while, when you start coveting that Halo king throne, you quickly adapt and I must say, I do enjoy the controller quite a bit. Of course like someone already mentioned its hard to do a 180, but then I never really played around with the sensitivity feature...

Listening to various podcasts 1up yours especially.

A) The framerate issues are temporary, introduced by streaming technology in the demo.

I'm worried it's just going to be what's in the demo repeated over and over. If that's the case, I don't see myself making it past the half way mark. It's going to need something to keep it fresh, a few puzzles and stealth segments or something like that.

Earlier videos had the darkness dynamic which sounded fun. There's also the numerous boss battles that have been coming together. Lastly, Cliffy B even mentioned vehicles, so I'd say that our hopes and prayers are probably going to be answered. Everything I could possibly be interested in gaming wise is either on PC or 360 (in some cases both). E3 was very interesting. I am especially captivated by idea of Live Anywhere.

As for Assassins Creed, the idea of 360 release is very plausible at this point. Nothing concrete yet unfortunately. Lost Planet demo was an enjoyable surprise I never expected to be as good as it was. Test Drive Unlimited is an interesting idea in need of a lot of polish.

Hi RAD!!!! :) :) :)

Overall this year's E3 isn't very impressive for the PC department. Oblivion has been released and played to death, so that department is taken care of. NWN2, for whatever reason, doesn't seem to generate that much buzz despite of the popularity of the first one, probably because it isn't from Bioware. I still find it strange that Bioware would let go this great franchise to some other underdog develooper who fucked up KOTOR: SL.

Another RPG that's new is Titan Quest. It looks very incredible, but the whole Eguptian feel doesn't seem to impress a lot of people. Gameplay wise, it's Diablo + Dungeon Siege.

Gothic 3 could be fun. We will see.

Hellgate: London looks quite boring. The trailer was sweet because the chick had a cute butt and the killing spree was cool to look at. Too bad the actual game probably won't have that much cute butt to stare at.

Finally, the Witcher. This game uses NWN's Aurora engine and, boy this engine doesn't age well at all. The screenshots look sweet but the video gives away how shitty it looks.

FPS department is quite lacking this year. Too little information is revealed about HALO 3, and it's a piece of overrated crap anyway. Dark Messiah of M&M was definitely a winner. Resistance: Fall of Men was really cool looking, but PS3 isn't even released yet, so that doesn't mean much.

Chrome 2 looks incredible. The first one really sucked, but it shows potential. This one has giant robot, but the graphics feel dated.

RTS wise, Supreme Commander. :)

Few days ago I finally experienced the true purpose of Live, when I stayed up till 3 AM playing GRAW and UNO with 3 guys from UK. Most entertaining gaming session, well since I bought the console. By the way, we should play some times. Of course assuming we could find some middle ground regarding what to play. Especially seeing as you have been blasting away at BF:MC lately (which I dont have). How is it anyway?

@ Yian: Titan Quest is more of Greek/Roman mythology inspired I think. Which in my case is both a plus as well as minus. plus since I have had a long term fascination with Greek mythology and minus since the demo was very dull.

Digital Limit

As long as you can put aside the fact that the game itself isn't very next-generation looking, it's a fantastic gaming experience. It's a port afterall, so one shouldn't expect much, but that's the complaint coming from most people. Outside of that, it retains the addictive gameplay evident in every BF game, and it's a very welcome addition to my lineup. As for GRAW, it's not my cup of tea at all. I feel lame just sitting around picking off red diamonds from a distance with my little spray-cannon. Given that bit of gameplay is weak for me, I'm not enamored with the rest of the game because it's simply more of the same. I may rent it for the singleplayer though, as I've only played the demo.

I got the "Egyptian" idea when I saw some screenshots with Egyptian style buildings. After playing the demo, I realized that it is greek/roman based. It seems to have a variety of styles throughout the game as you travel through different regions. I saw this shot with oriental style building, for example.

A large group of IGN Insiders gathered together last night for a game of BFMC and it was the definitive experience. Honestly, as bad as the game is compared to its PC counterpart, it's still an incredibly fun game with friends that talk and plan. You should pick it up sometime. Though, if not, I'll probably snatch GRAW through Gamefly soon as this Table Tennis game is one of the most unappealing games I've played in awhile. I never feel like I bested the computer. I may as well be playing virtual slots, but with cloth physics.

Planning on picking up Prey?
