Supreme Commander looks to be the next Total Annihilation.
(TA having impacted the RTS genre in a HUGE way at the time)

No bullshit, just pure awesome mayhem and destruction!

Wow, just wow... I didn't pay too much attention to this game, because I felt all the RTS are kind of the same these days. But this one looks really really cool!

I especially love jhose giant red spider robots with their ion cannons sweeping through the battlefield.

Holy SHIT! this game looks so frigging sweet i almost wet my pants. Infact i'm going to wet my pants for the principle of how excited that trailer made me.

TA 1 is my favorite RTS of all time, followed by the imesurable disapointment with TA2 now by the looks of it they are going to redeem themselves and then some!

I just worry about how complicated the fights might become, the units better have some good ai to govern how they battle or i can see it becomming a micromanagement nightmare. The trailer had them just rushing at each other and shooting as they ran which is hardly a good tactic.

Not big on the RTS genre but this looks playable :)

Looke cool! Amphibious combat units that actually grow legs when on the land, instead of just "hover"... little details like these make a game great, unlike some other RTS game that totally forget about details (Homeworld2).

The terrain looks okay, and the units look okay, too. I guess by using simplistic graphics, it allows the game engine to render better effects such as lighting, smoke, and explosions. Also it mean huge combats with plenty of units involved.

Since 1997 I've wanted a TA 'sequel', this game will undoubtably become a true classic just like TA did.

I hope its as customisable as TA, meaning that fuckloads of mod communities start up and make endless numbers of new units, structures and maps.
Thats what made TA last so long, infinite new content.

I have a question: why don't they just call it Total Annihilation 2? Wouldn't that attract more attention?

What's the dual monitor feature(s) anyway?

Swordmaster, watch the f***ing videos!
:D
Yian,

Total Annihilation was developed by Cavedog Entertainment, but the company went under around 98' or 99' after Chris Taylor, the mastermind of TA left the company to form Gas Powered Games.

The TA rights was consequently sold, and it passed hands several times, but it was acquired by Bethesda not very long ago.

To cut a long story short, Chris Taylor and GPG can't use the TA trademark for obvious legal reasons, so they decided to settle with a spiritual successor i.e. Supreme Commander instead.

not forgetting that Total Annihilation 2 was already made a while ago into a shitty medieval game...

I must now get a job. Three RTS's billing themselves as the super-mega-ultimate RTS.

CoH, Supreme Commander, and WiC... And I must buy them...

CoH is in 64 days, what about the other two?

Yeah, I remember it! Wasn't it called Kingdoms?

And, um, what is CoH? I just can't figure out what CoH is.

And what is WiC?

[EDIT] After a few minutes of googling, I finally figured out that CoH is probably Company of Heroes, and WiC is World in Conflict. Geeeee..... How am I supposed to know!?

Because you should be keeping track of these fucking awesome games!

CoH's awesome factor. (http://mevault.ign.com/View.php?view=Movies.Detail&id=101)

Oh and Yian: If you think Homeworld 2 missed all the details and want that fixed (still have the game + time + effort), download the 7.2 version of PDS. The Point Defence Systems mod is amazing. It's like Supreme Commander's combat, but in space.

When watching the videos the game is much more impressive than just looking at pics. Seems neat cant wait to try it out.

Homeworld 2? Uhhh....??? I don't remember there was a game called Homeworld 2... Yeah, I guess it would be awesome if Homeworld, the best 3D strategy game ever made, has a sequel... but I have only heard RUMOR about it... I mean, shouldn't Homeworld 2 be the 3D RTS of all time? Shouldn't it be so awesome it will have everything an RTS fan could possibly ask for? Like, seeing crew members getting sucked into space as the ship snaps in half? Seeing ion beams breaching the hall and debris flying everywhere? Should it have formations, fuels, megaliths, and a really ass-kicking Sajuuk?

Alright alright..... I will give PDS a try.

Dark_Swordmaster
July 8th, 2006, 12:08 PM
They can do that now, but remember 3 years back when it was brand new that was next-gen concepts. They probably could have done some of it but we'd have another Oblivion with was top-shelf rig or shit.

After all, the Homeworld 2 engine is HORRIBLY optimized. So the awesome shit PDS does kills the engine in huge (and I do mean huge) melees.

I'll just be waiting for the mod that renames all the units to their proper arm and core names...

Late game nuke fests whoot!

So... I thought it had a handy dual-monitor use... Now, don't get me wrong, it's nice to have eyes in the back of your head, but I'd much rather have something that would let me, oh say, build without looking at my base. Just assign a build panel to a specific building and BAM(!), there it is in the secondary screen. Oh well, I guess having a map up so I can see what's going on is nice too...
