Well, I'm satisfied.
I wouldn't have ordered both soundtracks, but I lost the first volume.
Anyone read the books? I've heard The Flood is boring, whereas the other two are stellar.

I've read Fall of Reach, nothing nobel prize worthy, but an entertaining read nonetheless. For more interesting insight into the halo mythology, listen to the ilovebees archives.

Fall of Reach is the better of the three. Very interesting, it's all about the origins and stuff. The Flood is okay, if you ignore the bits with the Chief (you played them in the game), but the bits about the other characters are quite good. The 3rd one just tells you what happened between Halo 1 and 2, and is quite the mindfuck, now that I think about it.

So I need to beat Halo 2 alongside reading the books before I'll be ready for Halo 3?

if you think I was joking...
the ilovebees website was the alternate reality game created by Bungie & 4orty2wo Entertainment, leading up to the release of Halo 2 back in 2004. It involved gps tracking of phone booths across the U.S., and secret "messages" given to the person who answered the phone question correctly. These messages are made in an episodic manner each time revealing part of another story based in the Halo universe. You can think of it like an audio book, and listening to the "log" files in order you'll see how it plays out.
here's the site (http://www.ilovebees.com/humptydumpty.html) again

I remember reading the first book and I enjoyed it for the most part. Read the second one, was boring as hell and it's pretty obvious why. Third one I didn't really like either, perhaps because I read a lot of other more interesting sci-fi books inbetween the first and second books.
The problem with these the halo books is that there are based off of a storyline that doesn't have very much depth, and it isn't explained all that well in the games either. There are many other sci-fi books that have much deeper and more meaningful stories than these books.
In my opinion, the first book is probably worth the read. Second and third ones are a waste of time if you aren't a diehard halo fan.

Blargh, I have a bit of The Fountainhead to finish before I can start these books.
The summer can't come soon enough.

There seems to be a HALO graphic novel as well:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0785123725/qid=1148751017/sr=2-3/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_3/002-2983002-9184826?s=books&v=glance&n=283155
Marvel and Bungie team up to create The Halo Graphic Novel HC based on the best-selling video game. The graphic novel brings the Halo universe to life for the first time in the sequential art medium in a 128-page, full color, high quality, jacketed, hardcover graphic novel. Stories include: "Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor" by Simon Bisley and Lee Hammock. When communications from a Covenant agricultural support ship are mysteriously terminated, an Elite Commander and his squad of Special Forces are sent to investigate. In "Armor Testing" by Ed Lee and Jay Faerber, the only way to test Spartan armor, is to send a Spartan. The question is what's really being tested? In Tsutomo Nihei's "Breaking Quarantine," the untold tale of Sergeant Johnson's escape from the clutches of the Flood menace is revealed! Finally, Moebius and Brett Lewis' "Second Sunrise Over New Mombasa" tells of the subtler, more dangerous fights taking place on the streets of New Mombasa and in the hearts and minds of men. Cover by Phil Hale. Gallery art created a number of elite artists including Rick Berry, Geof Darrow, Scott Fischer, Sterling Hundley, Craig Mullins, George Pratt, Juan Ramirez, George Staples, Justin Sweet, John Van Fleet and Kent Williams.

Whoa, I'll have to snatch that when it comes out.
As for the current lineup of books, I've completed The Fall of Reach.
Reach fell, and I was sad; though, a very solid book. I loved getting closer to the Spartans by understanding their origin and their mortality. I heard a lot about other Spartans as I played through the games, so the fact that Master Cheif was the last Spartan was lost on me. This book brought that concept back by killing off every important Spartan, one by one. It also did a bang up job detailing Captain Keyes, giving him a lot of granduer that I never felt about him before, not to mention the details about his ship and the intergalactic spacebattles he lived through. For anyone who hasn't read this book, it's definitely worth it. Props to Eric Nylund for writing in a way that kept me interested the whole way through. Sadly, William C. Dietz isn't nearly as skilled given...
I've also started The Flood and my god, this is terrible!
It follows the Halo game to a friggin' T.
/me falls asleep mid-read.

As I said, ignore anything to do with the MC. The ODST bits are pretty good later on.
But don't make it sound like a masterpiece, coz it aint. In fact, FoR was probably the only one worth the paper it was printed on. The Flood adds barely anything, and First Strike, while good in it's own right, is a total mindfuck and sets a whole lot of shit up that isn't even touched on in Halo 2, which seems like a pretty redundant idea to me. You'll understand once you've read it.

I've read the first one. I own the second but I can't bring myself to read it.
As for the soundtracks? Martin O'Donnell. Come on, it's almost all good. Save the extra little shit on the second by Hoobastank. Fuck Hoobastank!

Eh, there's a lot of good shit that happens surrounding Master Chief. John 117 is a fucking badass, and I like to see his badassery applied. Hell, getting to know MC was the reason I started reading these books. Though, I'll admit that without Cortana's sass he's a far less interesting character once he's all suit and no heart. Speaking of which, Cortana is totally boneable. I'd hit that AI in a second. I wonder if that could be arranged. Give her a vagina construct that she can control or something. Tisl, that's more up your alley than these books--get on it! And no, that wasn't a pun.

Yes, but that's not the point. If you want me to build something as gay as a vagina for an AI whore, you're going to have to read something as manly as historial fiction set in ancient Rome.

Honestly? No. From what I've seen, you really like sappy stuff like people reflecting on the beauty of life and falling in love and crap. There's not too much of that in these books. You'd just be wasting your money. Stick with Halo.
