The subject pretty much says it. I'm going to give the game a last try tonight after patching/upgrading. They call this a driving simulator? Codemasters can suck my dick.

Exactly - the physics are somewhere between arcade-rollerblading and shopping-mall-trolley races. The AI will stick to the racing line at constant speed (compare lap times) and one nudge from the rear sends you spinning. Try to take out an AI car in the same manor and the fucker by some fucking remarkable way manages to outrun you.
