I could have sworn we had a thread on this.
Nevertheless, I found this post interesting, so here it is:
I've never played kill switch, so I can't say all thats different, but I can list off some of the stuff GoW is going to do and then you can compare them.
-Make cover from knocking down bolders, statues, etc...
-Cover takes damage and will crumble on you
-Chainsaw melee
-Blind Fire
-Pop and shoot
-Swat turn
-Leap over cover
-Other movement from cover to cover options I'm forgetting the name of
-Sprint mode (makes you really really inaccurate, cool effect in doing it though)
-Both horror and action elements
-Some seriously huge ass monster enemies which likely requre different tactics to kill
-Should be cool story with it being penned by Eric Nylund (Halo novel fame)
-Multiplayer which supposely kicks ass (based on hands on reports)
-Coop
-Squad gameplay with squad commands
-Importance view (if you teammate says there is something important you hold y and have your camera shif to looking at it also for use in multi)
-Large Battles containing vehicles (unclear whether we can drive/fire them ourselves)
Probably some other stuff I'm forgetting.
Now as I said, I've never played Kill Switch, so I dunno, but how many of those things does kill switch have? Like 2 of those?
GoW sounds pretty awesome to me.
Many cool things being done with the game, but I wasn't aware that the story was being done by Nylund. After having read The Fall of Reach and being completely satisfied, I'm guessing that this game will succeed in terms of story. Alongside that, the multiplayer was a huge hit behind closed doors at E3, and all footage of the game is beautiful, so given all of this shit I can only imagine that this game will in fact be the hit everyone is expecting it to be. Though, of course, I'll have to wait for reviews before I fall for the game. Don't want to fall for the hype, no matter how convincing. Then again, it is Epic. They have their shit together.

I was checking out the new DoD:S features (they copped out on motion blur and DoF!) and some guys were talking about how awesome the Miami Vice movie's going to be because it will have a Gears of War trailer before it.
That's bullshit. This is just going to be another Halo, full of a fanbase so fucking stupid it can't find its ass when its head is already so fucking far up it...
God damn you console twats!

Nope PC too; it's just that the date's not been listed. It's been listed as one of the titles that'll require Vista to run

You're missing the point. And I don't see how. Surely on Live you've run into enough twats to make a round, a match, a game suck. There's no way you can't have that problem with consoles... Well, except for the onlineless Gamecube...

Games on either platforms have their own charm. I don't mind consoles at all. I mind the PC retards who think consoles suck. Hell I may still get a PS2 to play one game, God of War 2, since that game's going to own so much ass.

Gears of War Gets Personal
The Coalition of Organized Governments says hello. New screens included.
by Charles Onyett
July 14, 2006 - Up to now we've all seen screens, video, and impressions of Gears of War. There are monstrous enemies, big guns, fiery explosions, and of course grisly chainsaws. But what about the men behind the death-dealing hardware? Where did these crazy Coalition fighters come from? Why are they obsessed with battling the ferocious Locust Horde? Why don't they just go play video games and forget about the real world? The answers are below. You'll find back stories for five of the main COG soldiers striving against the Locust threat. According to Microsoft, the screens below were taken using the in-game engine. The character poses were set up specifically for the shots.
Marcus Fenix
Son of the famed military scientist Adam Fenix, Marcus established a reputation as a brilliant soldier during the Pendulum Wars, earning numerous field promotions and decorations. He was on a fast track to an outstanding military career until the war with the Locust Horde.
When the Horde breached Jacinto Plateau's defenses, Marcus defied orders to save his father, who was under siege at East Barricade Academy. He was too late. Marcus was charged with dereliction of duty and was sentenced to 40 years in Jacinto Maximum Security Penitentiary.
Four years into his sentence, the Horde overtook the penitentiary but Marcus was rescued by his best friend Dominic Santiago, so that he could rejoin the fight against the unstoppable Locust Horde.
Dominic Santiago
Dom is a vocal, colorful and yet practical soldier. He's loyal to a fault, especially with his friends, and has no patience for those that think of themselves first.
Dominic has always believed in his country and his leaders, but his faith has been slipping in the face of this endless war. Dom lost his wife in the Emergence Day cataclysm. For him, the fight against the Horde is deeply personal.
By testifying in Marcus' defense, Dom prevented an execution, but was forced to accept the heavy judgment the military tribunal handed down to his childhood friend. Never forgetting, Dom seized his first opportunity to save Marcus' life, and convinced Lieutenant Minh Young Kim to enlist Marcus into his squad.
Minh Young Kim
Lieutenant Kim is a proud, dedicated and ambitious soldier, a by-the-books believer in all things COG. To Kim, the Coalition of Organized Governments is humanity's only hope for survival and feels that it is an honor and privilege to serve as a Gear.
Kim moved quickly through the ranks, but after a run of bad luck he was left leading the misfits of Delta Squad. Feeling undervalued and overlooked, Kim has something to prove.
Only the strength of Dom's faith -- and the scarcity of experienced soldiers - convinced Kim to consider bringing former prisoner Fenix into his squad.
Augustus Cole
Cole, aka "The Cole Train", is an adrenaline junkie and former professional thrashball player. He craves action, and prefers to take the most direct path to the Locust Horde in any situation. What he lacks in finesse, he makes up for in raw energy.
Along with his child-like enthusiasm and charm, Cole is supremely confident in his own abilities to overcome anything, regardless of the odds—and he hasn't been proven wrong yet.
Cole and Damon Baird have served together for years, and he treats Baird as he would an older brother with a younger brother's license to torment.
Damon Baird
Despite being a reluctant and cynical soldier, Baird excels at the military life. Baird is perfectly capable of being a successful officer, but has never been promoted due to his poor attitude, short temper and his unwillingness to take on any responsibility.
Baird's greatest strength is his intelligence. He not only fights the Locust, but he studies and observes them as well. He's the closest the COG have to an expert, and when Baird tells his comrades to be quiet and listen, they know it is in their best interest to do exactly that.
Baird's only motivation is self preservation. He's willing to do whatever it takes to get through the war alive -- even march along side a troublemaker like Fenix.

Based on what?
I mean, we know Epic sucks. Oh wait.
And no one has played it and enjoyed it. Oh wait.
And the gameplay looks terrible. Oh wait.
And the graphics suck. Oh wait.
And Microsoft isn't backing it. Oh wait.
And I couldn't keep going on and on and on. Oh wait.

Eh, for all I know it may end up being good, but it's a tech demo. Tech demos usually fall flat. Take Far Cry for instance. Awesome gameplay, and it was very pretty. But it fell flat. And the latter two thirds of the game were completely fucked over by the Trigens.

That makes a lot of sense.

I'm citing an example. You are merely going on preordained information that it's going to be a great game, whilst I am using what I know and what has previously happened with Far Cry to surmise that this, while it won't tank, will indeed be much less than it originally seems.
And about the brick wall comment: Have you ever heard the expression "I might as well be talking to a wall."? Same concept, different wording.
As for the photochop thing, I have this wonderful concept in mind but posting it would likely get me bant.

I don't see how that even applies. You're basically saying that Gears of War will be a let down because FarCry was a let down.
How are they even related? You mentioned tech demo, but that's not what they are.
Unless, of course, this is some common gamer use of the term that I'm unaware of which basically means a game used on a new engine is a tech demo.
Or that a game that is attractive is a tech demo, which it also obviously is not.
Enlighten me.
And about the brick wall comment: Have you ever heard the expression "I might as well be talking to a wall."? Same concept, different wording.
Yes, that's why I responded that I was reciprocating, i.e. not being a brick wall.
I think this saying applies to you as well, in that you're offering nothing to suport your claim other than some unrelated game's lackluster gameplay.

Far Cry was a tech demo of the Crytek engine, but when they saw the chance to turn profit, it quickly evolved into a game. So this "game" shipped and flopped because underlying the gameplay was the fundamental of the entire game: Hook developers who want a great engine for their game.

A high profile, highly covered and highly hyped shooter with the most cutting edge graphics for the platform. The actual gameplay is always an afterthought. It's almost a gaming rule, for fucks sake. It's incredibly, incredibly, incredibly, incredibly, incredibly, incredibly, incredibly, incredibly, incredibly, incredibly, incredibly, rare for developers to spend time working on the having the lastest graphical eye candy and real gameplay.

Meh, it's a moot point. Good games are defined by good gameplay. Far Cry (for 4.5 levels) was a good game. But in the market it just caved in.
