Valve's acclaimed shooter comes to the next gen -- with some tasty extras.

July 13, 2006 - Speaking at EA's annual summer press event, Valve's Gabe Newell announced that Half-Life 2 will arrive for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Better yet, the ports, which are scheduled to ship simultaneously with Half-Life 2: Episode Two for the PC, will include official Half-Life 2 content available at that point, including Episode Two.

While Newell didn't announce every bit of what will be on the disc, the PS3 and X360 versions of Half-Life 2 will include adjunct titles like Counter-Strike: Source; Half-Life 2: Episode One; and the just-reconfirmed Team Fortress 2.

Half-Life 2: Episode One and Episode Two are the first chapters of a planned trio of episodic add-ons to the original Half-Life 2, extending the game's story.

Of particular interest is a new feature Valve is calling "Portal," which involves using a special gun to create portals similar to those used in Prey. A player could create a portal nearby, for instance, and then a second portal on the other side of a chasm; walking through the first would transport him safely out the second.

Valve wasn't clear on just where the portal gun will be used, though it looks to be part of the arsenal in Episode Two -- and certainly a good candidate for multiplayer.

Stay tuned for more details on how Half-Life 2 will arrive for next-gen consoles as soon as news comes in.

No but you must admit that it's a fact that most of the people that play consoles are of the younger generation. Granted, there's a shitload out there that are 27+, but there's a lot more 12-15 range... That should be shot...

At least one good thing will come from it... The debate will finally be put to rest of the incredible superiority of mouse and keyboard to the controller. Of course they'll probably just whine that we're cheating or something, which some will, which will be funny to see them freak out when a speedhacker goes running by.

I wonder how it will sell. Comparing PC sales to console on HL2 and CSS will be interesting. You would think a lot more people would rather it on PC.

As for the new console game half-life, so they introduce a portal gun, bundle it with all the little extras, so what?
Isn't there a point where these games with all their little episodic extras just stop being amusing? Christ. The whole gaming industry should die and go to hell.

They did this with oblivion, chargin you for pissy little expansions, now they do it with these half-life episodes, and now they are gonna bundle it all up and wack it onto a console, and you can pay $60 for it all over again. Christ.

Vlad, you have yet to make a single fucking productive post. Even posting to TASpring wasn't very productive when the player base turns out to be shit (I have tried 10 games, and trying to learn when people are assholes to you is nigh impossible).
