The firefights are well done and actually fun. The running about is utter shit. Utter, utter shit.

Best FPS since HL2. .. before Ep1.
I have no idea how much $20 aus is (and already I fear that in admitting that, you're going to tell me), but its worth it. Many aspects of this game were mightily impressive, such as the fluidity of the enemy animation.

FEAR bored the shit out of me. Get a gun, shoot some bastards, and run around the same fucking office block for 10 long and lifeless hours.
Compelling? Ah... no.

Just started playing it again. Best motion capture in a game coupled with great weapons and great sounds makes for some really awesome firefights. A really good game. Although if you have A.D.D. then you won't enjoy it. Its also an adult title, it isn't aimed at 12 year olds like HL2. I just started playing HL2 again as well and the combine look like cuddly little dolls with their bright cute eyes in comparison to FEAR.

That's because the Combine only has humanities best interests at heart! They may have to kill you, but they want to look as unmenacing and welcoming as possible while doing it. Fettel's boys? They just want to kill you.

I don't consider excessive amounts of violence and gore to be adult, the same goes for unnecessary cursing. It's more immature than it is mature. Plus, I just think the game is a boring piece of shit that should have never been made.

I didn't say anything about the violence or gore, did I? HL2 is cuddly, FEAR is not. Also, if an 8 year old, for example, had to play FEAR they would need serious counselling.

Only if they needed it beforehand.
Seriously, people aren't going to be scarred by stupid shit like games. More like fathers that abuse alcohol.

Its implied when you talk about F.E.A.R, Doom 3, or any other game like it. The story sure as hell isn't deep and engrossing.
HL2 is cuddly, FEAR is not. Also, if an 8 year old, for example, had to play FEAR they would need serious counselling.
I don't see how F.E.A.R's art is any less cuddly than HL2's. Oh boy, mindless drones in various types of Armor! Scary! At least HL2 has screaming coked-up monkey zombies. And what about HL2's Stalkers? I'd say they are more creepy looking than F.E.A.R's clone army. You don't even know what the Combine Soldiers look like under their armored masks, they are probably more disfigured than Stalker's are. Not that either game really has anything that'll give you nightmares.
F.E.A.R's art style in general has that horrible clean and sterile look that I fucking hate. Even the places that are supposed to be all grimy and gritty look pretty clean. The clean places look like they were just given the once over by a fully staffed professional cleaning crew and the "dirty" places look like they were just lazily cleaned by a lone low-wage janitor with a dirty mop and no Mr. Clean in his bucket.
As for good sound... I can't say I agree on that point, either. It's got some good voice acting, music, and a good sound effect here and there, but overall I found the sound to be very underwhelming. Especially the weapon sounds, all of which have zero bass. I feel like I'm shooting a pellet gun.
Because alcoholism is a disease and the alcoholics are powerless over it.

Ravenholm was messed up, I'll give it that. But it really is a kiddie game. You obviously have some kind of wierd unnatural hatred towards FEAR for some reason, it must have offended you in some bizzare way and there's no reasoning with that. Have fun!

Your usage of the word "kiddie" has invalidated any point you've made on the game. Good job.
As for my hate for F.E.A.R.. It's a completely overrated game that I consider just barely mediocre. HL2 is also overrated, but I like it far more than F.E.A.R.

I attacked the points you made because I disagree with them, your job is to argue your points further. A discussion without disagreement isn't a discussion, it's group mental masturbation.
Go "masturbate with sandpaper" or whatever else your supposedly mature mind can come up with.
Oh yes, one immature statement I said before this all started is very relevant to your inability to intelligently debate your points and the subject of the overall quality of the game in question. Even if I didn't go into much detail, at least I attempted to explain why I dislike the game, instead you just provided short posts with no information on your point of view, and one post with a link to some site about babies.
People that argue their point with short posts containing childish remarks such as calling a game "Kiddie" or its enemies "Cuddly" are no more clever or smart than the morons that do name alterations (M$, Shitbox, Microshit, and the like).

Ray...it's funny, because you don't actually substantiate anything with reasons until your third post, most of which is rather highly subjective, focusing on artistic interpretation rather than any of what I would call "gameplay". Now, granted, bored has done nothing but repeat the same point three or more times in a row...
And don't even get me started on HL2. That piece of crap will never be the proper successor that HL1, OpFor, and (to a much lesser degree, Blue Shift) deserved.

I made a lazy attempt at it, at least. And you're right, I didn't mention gameplay. Not that there's much to talk about on that front, what with it just being another one man army game where you run around with a gun and shoot at things. The level design was just as clean and sterile as the artwork, totally bland and uninspired.
Of course it's highly subjective, it's all personal opinion.
Now, granted, bored has done nothing but repeat the same point three or more times in a row...
And that's what bothers me. I'd like it if I was given responses at least equal to my own.

Hey Ray, I'm just curious but what games do you consider to be great?
MrBored

Ray16, the reason why I didn't add any more points as to why I think FEAR is better than HL2 is because that wasn't the point of this thread, I don't dislike HL2 and they're too different a game to compare them directly. I was replaying HL2 for a reason. I just wanted to make a point of the one thing that stood out to me after going from FEAR to HL2.

Have you ever shot a gun? There isn't a whole lot of bass unless you're shooting a shotgun or large-calibur rifle, and even then most of that is due to the echoing of the gunshot.

I've never shot a gun, but I know real guns don't have much bass, more of just a loud pop. However, I never said anything about real or fake. In a game as visceral as F.E.A.R it seems to me that weapon sounds with more of a punch would fit better than sounds that sound like real weapons.
Slow motion, lots of debris, grenades that blow enemies into chunks, a pissed off psychic woman, and enemies with MGS/Halo-like Active Camo...The game doesn't exactly scream realism. In a game like F.E.A.R it's about making things bad ass, not realistic.

Fear was one freaking awesome game, in many ways.
But of course like all FPS's it had a butt load of 'pain-in-the-ass-wtf-bullshit'.
From what i've seen of the expansion pack, Extraction Point we'll be getting a 'doom 3 ressurection' type deal. Meh i'll pick it up to see if they fixed any of the problems the original had, like the somewhat repititous enemy encounters.
Yes the Ai was pretty impressive but after the enemy stops feeling so dynamic and starts feeling so predictable you kinda get bored.
That and I really wanted to kill that fat fuck Norton Mapes, and I didn't get too.

So when is the expansion coming out? If its at least 5 hours it will be more of a whole new game than just an expansion due to FEAR being 5 hours long.
