One of Half-Life's most popular mods was "Team Fortress Classic". Valve was so impressed with the game, it bought the rights and began working on "Team Fortress 2". But there haven't been any updates on the game since 1999.

There still aren't. But Newell did say "After we finish the announcement process for Half-Life 2, we will provide an update on Team Fortress 2."
from the article: http://money.cnn.com/2003/04/23/commentary/game_over/column_gaming/ that you've all read (and i think i read this quote on the main site)

but i don't care! HA! i KNEW it wasn't vaporware

Wow, Valve is going to make a lot of fans happy. Half-Life 2, and maybe Team Fortress 2 by the end of the year, or early-to-mid 2004. Ever since Half-Life 2 was announced, i've been wondering if 3D Realms is doing the same this with DNF. Wouldn't it be cool if DNF showed up at E3 this year, with a new graphics engine and in an almost complete form? That would kick so much ass!

I still look foward to Team Fortress 2 even though my interest is somewhat less than back in 1999. Hmm.... wasn't that like 4 years ago??? And I'm still playing half-life mods omg.

Half Life and it's mods are my main games. Even tho it doesn't look good, it's still the best damn engine around.

Doesn't look the best, it doesn't feel the most realistic, but it's just so damn fun!
