Haha, thought it was an add didn't ya.

Anyways, I was just sitting here looking through the forums and thinking to myself, "Hey, I'm bored as shit. I'll harass my credit card company!"

So I called the number on the back of my credit card, talked to a representative, and demanded that they raise my credit limit to 50,000 up from 700. Ahhahaah

Long story short, the "representative" asked me a bunch of questions about my finances. (I'm a poor ass college student.) and she said that they could raise it to 1,100 immediately. Needless to say I was somewhat shocked that I can raise my credit limit, and thereby my credit score by simply asking.

Someone else give it a try and post your results. BTW, credit card service lines are open 24/7, so might as well try it now. I just did it at 12:30 at night. I was shocked that it worked. o_O

Footnotes:

- Was Bored
- Called to harass credit card company
- Credit card company raised my credit limit
- My credit score went up because I was bored

Don't let that higher credit limit backfire and drag you down into the debt abyss.

Credit score != Credit limit.

Correct. However, your credit limit, among other things directly affects your Credit Score. Part of the way your credit score is derived is by dividing your current debt by your current credit limit. Therefor, the higher the credit limit, the lower the ratio. (Assuming it isn't maxed out, at which point it doesn't matter.)

Essentially if you had two people, all things being exactly equal. They both had 200 dollars of debt, but one had an 800 dollar limit and the other had a 2000 limit, the guy with the 2000 dollar limit would have the better credit score.

Cha Chow! :D

I don't have a credit card. I keep getting sent gold amex cards n shit like that with a phone number to activate them but I through it all in the bin.

When it comes to finances, I prefer the moral high ground.

What the heck? Mine is at 1,500 without doing anything.

That is probably for a few reasons:

-Are you currently attending / did you attend a university? Credit card companies give out higher limit credit cards to people in college because they have the highest chance of paying back.

-Are you working an above minimum wage job? Your limit is directly affected by your income.

-Do you have Capital One? They up your credit card limit after X amount of time without even telling you. Others you need to request.

- At what age did you apply for a card?

- Etc etc etc...

There we go...

I don't have any credit. Not that I know of, at least.
